                        Fine Woodworking ran an article recently that described the differences in some detail. You can see a version of it here http://www.taunton.com/finewoodworking/pages/w00006.asp Keep in mind that sandpaper is also made from different materials and on different backings, some of which are more suitable for wet use than others.

                        Who'd of thought something so prosaic could have a whole science behind it?!?

                        hey ive aslo heard that micro mesgh pads and wet dry papaer are equal in grits, even tho they r labelled differently
                        ie:2000grit wet + dry = 32000 micro mesh (not sure if thats exact, its just an example!)
                        id post a link, but i cant find it atm... maybe some1 else here knows what site im talkin bout!

                        I saw and article on ARC (2nd of june) on sanding paper.
                        It seams that there are two different systems of defining the grit of sanding paper!

                        It now finally makes sense to me that some American modellers use 400 grit! This is compareble with what is called 600 grit in Europe.
