Dremel flex shaft problems
Posted by gjek on Friday, July 15, 2005 1:39 AM
I have a variable speed dremel with the flexshaft. It said not to bend the shaft tighter than a 6 inch diameter bend or it might overheat. My problem is if I put a bend 16 inches in diameter the bit stops turning. The dremel continues to run. Is this the norm or is there a problem? It can become fustraiting. Thanks! Greg.

Well if it says you can bend it to a 6" diameter and you can't get it to work on a 16" diameter, I would say there is something wrong. Will it work on the 6" diameter? Try turning up the speed the more the diameter is increased.

These are all just guess'

Good luck!

If the tool is spinning, but the bit is not, then you have slippage in the connection between the flex shaft. When you are bending your shaft, it is increasing friction, eventually to the point where it is overcoming your connection. If I recall correctly, there is a set screw in the system that clamps the internal shaft - I would check that first. I believe those cables need to be lubricated from time to time too, but that is not causing your current problem - the tool would stop running if the shaft was binding.

I hope this helps you
