My problem, I have butter fingers!!! No-one else to blame living by myself. My nephews respect my kits, as I have a really good DVD collection!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beautiful babysitters my DVD's are, keeps the boys occupied and their hands out of the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!

did I tell you about that time when my "friend" (now my foe) made a football pass to another "friend" with my 1/72 Abrams? it was on concrete floor, and of course the kid misses it. so- "oops!" *slip* *kssssss* "AUGHHHHHH!!!!"
mine plow, barrel, and the suspension snapped clear off. later, that kid said, "I was just trying to be funny". now when I think about it, it feels like I'm going to get a heart attack Angry [:(!]

Here's an idea, and it's cheaper then a huge glass display.
Take a wall shelf and mount it a 45 degree angle down rather then 90 to the wall then glue, tack or wire your builds to the surface. This will give a better line of sight and the seemingly precarious mounting will inhibit "feelers" from poking there didgits at 'em.
A sign that says "Keep yer Beaters off" would help too!!!
You could even paint the shelf surface like the wild blue yonder to giv'em that "in flight" feel

Put a sign next to your model that says:you break it you buy it!Then,make teh shelf they are on incredibley weak.when they touch the shelf,they all fall,and the person has to buy all of them!then you buy new ones;-)

Being a woodworker with a full shop I custom build VERY simple non wood cases for those out sized objects (not just models)I wish to display.
Next visit to your local home center pick up some sheet plastic and super glue. Cut the top, base and sides to sizes needed ,but mitre all the edges except where the sides meet the base. tape the thing together and from the inside run the THIN superglue around the seams. You can hinge one side, put a small hasp and lock on the opposite side and maybe people will get the message. Add embellishments as you desire, but that's the basics. I have them all over and haven't lost a piece to non thinking adults, cats, rug rats, the odd flying squrril or 'possum in years (I livein the woods so we get the occasional visit from the local furry woodland critters). Works for me.

Hey guys;
I just put a showcase lock on my glass case. The show case is one with sliding glass doors. The lock has kept the fingers off! The inspiration for the lock is my 18 month-old grandson seeing the planes and saying "OOOOOOOHHHH!!!!!!!!!, and then just about getting the door slid open. A close call.

Just kidding, I have model parts in almost every room in the house and a couple of kits have pieces in 3 different rooms... I'm louzy at keeping things organized.

most of my modeling is R/C aircraft, not the really great looking scale models you guys do.. and my thumbs usually end up taking care of the storage problem after a while! Either that, or mid-air collisions, those happen once in a while when you race.

I usually don't have a problem with other handling my models, it is ME!

Last month I was holding my old bf-109 and I was holding it gingerly with my thumb and index fnger on either side of the fuselage. I think Iwas holding it too gingerly as it fell and with my other hand I put it out to catch it, of course I snapped off the attenae, the wires and the starborad landing gear. Censored [censored]

was I so mad with myself, amazingly the canopy which is in the open position didn't break!

I've also broken off numerous pitot tubes, wires and gun barrels over the years (me and my clumsy fingers...)

I recently lost one of my FAA Martlets this way... had the N. Africa Martlet out on display, my sister in law came over and her step daughter (the story is getting convoluted no? in laws... step daughters...) went to pick up the Martlet... doing so she put her palm down on the antenna wire and snapped it and the mast off...

Immediately I yelled in a loud voice " Censored [censored]

!!!!!" when the step mother (my sister in law) came running with a look of fear in her eyes, I heartily apologized and explained it took me about 50 hours of work to complete that.. she almost had tears in her eyes... I think she thought it was a toy too... she immediately took the girl into the bed room for a talk, which I know did now good but I think the expletive alone I think was enough for the teenage step daughter to think twice...

(make sure you use your best R. Lee Ermey from mail call voice when you yell out the expletive)

Loud expletives are the way to go......

I have lost a couple to a child (not mine, she doesn't mess with my models) who shall remain nameles. It seems that brightly colored platic cars are seen as play things and if there is access to my room (when I'm not home) I will lose a couple. High shelves work, that and the claymore idea, but it will make a mess out of the room!

I use to work on a card table. The cat knocked the model off, got off the table to examine her kill, then she jumped back up on the table and it collapsed right on top.

Now I have a nice wood and metal table from Hobby Lobby that can't fold up or fall.

load the models with carpet tacks in performs 2 things 1 it acts as weight for the models and 2 next time your mom steps on a model she will remember for sure

I have a great method now, but it sucks in another way. I don't have anywhere to display my built kits right now so they are in Rubbermaid tubs in the cold storage. No worry about breakage! I just have to show photos of them instead right now. Banged Head [banghead]
