Workbench lighting question
Posted by Cableguy9238 on Saturday, October 1, 2005 12:31 AM
I have an Ott-Lite magnification lamp on order (god bless ebay :) ). I've had some experience with these particular lights before, and I have always wanted to get one for my own. If you ever see one on display some place, take a minute and check it out. They are amazing lights.

My question is this: are there any other lights, similar to these, that can be used for illuminating larger areas? I would like to have something that can illuminate my hobby room, which is roughly 140 sq ft. Right now, I have two flourescent light fixtures mounted into the drop ceiling, and a hand full of regular clamp-on or desk-style lights around the room. These different types of light can cause some real problems. They not only play havoc with my eyes, but they also can make color matching a real chore.

As I said before, I really like the Ott-lite, but any of their lights larger than their portable desk lamp size are WAY out of my ballpark. I'm looking for something that will help give me broader coverage with a "cleaner", more consistent light across the room.

Thanks!

Get T-8 ballasts for your fluorescents and use 5000K daylight bulbs...NOT the 6500K daylight plus type. I find the 5000K bulbs to be as close to daylight as I can get in the house and have no problems mixing colors under them.
