Hi Jim
I have the etch-mate & would not be without it. When i first started i used diffrent tools which worked on somr of the smaller pieces that only needed one or two folds.
But when i got to the larger parts like the frames around the windscreen that is where i wished i had a tool that folded the longer lengths.
I was given by a friend another PE tool as he could not get on with it,but i could not seem to get it to line up & it moved when you tightend it up.
So i tried the etch-mate & as i said have had any problems with it,also the etch-mate has a groove on the base which helps you lineup where the PE part is to be folded.
It is a lot of money to pay out but well worth it i think & the size it is`nt to big also well put together. hope this helps you a bit, but see what others say & make your own mind up or try this site it may help.http://www.ww2modelmaker.com/articlepub/Pefoldart.htm
