printing on flat plastic/metal
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, December 19, 2005 2:14 PM
anyone ever try to modify a regular inkjet printer to print on rigid stock like sheet plastic or brass?  i don't mean things like using iron-on transfers or tracing, i mean actually hacking up a printer such that it can pull in and print on a sheet of something non-flexible without destroying it.  sounds like it wouldn't be completely out of the question but i thought i'd ask.

I don't think the ink would stick to a hard surface like plastic. Paper absorbs the ink, plastic would just let is smear.

Why not buy decal paper (clear or white background) and print on it using your color printer? It is a lot easier and a lot less destructive to your printer than inserting metal or plastic sheets. I have had success creating colored letters and images on clear decal paper in my color jet printer and then fixing them with a spray on decal sealer. I then cut out the decals and affix them to what ever surface I choose.

Decal paper and sealer can be purchased from most hobby shops (online or brick & mortar).
