Nick Sander- help me locate one
Posted by LtGreg on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 11:30 AM
I bot this penshaped device that has fiberglass fiber inserts that extend from the tip  and are used to sand fine scratches etc. Unfortunately I ran out of inserts after all these years and cannot find the manufacturer etc on the internet. I have found people recommending it on the internet on auto refinishing sites but no place to buy it. It was used in the auto refinishing business but I have been to AutoZone and they do not carry it. Since you can use this to sand one paint layer at a time within a very small area it is really a fantastic tool for small scale modeling.

Seems like I saw those for sale at Walmart in the automotive section.

Lt Greg

I know the item you are after. I will ask a friend in the aerospace industry that uses these on a daily basis where his firm gets them from.

Cheers;

Lt Greg;

My friend has informed me that the firm buys in bulk from an electronics supplier but no name of the supplier.

However he did tell me that you should be able to find these in an electronics store Radio Shack carrys/carried them. The actual name for these is GLASS FIBRE PEN. They are used in cleaning battery contacts and connections for electronics. So you should be able to locate either refills for your pen or a new pen entirely.

I have seen these used to clean photoetched parts for soldering and painting. So I will be on the lookout for one as well. If I can find a definite name and supplier I will reply with it here.

Cheers;

Gregory
