Scratchbuilding a new modeling center... what if.....??

If you had a choice of 2 things you could incoporate into your modeling area what would it be? Paint organizer, more power outlets, storage bins or..????????? Heck.. post a picture of your current situation if you so desire its good to get ideas from some others layouts.

We can only pic 2!!! Everything you mentioned I would want more of, but if I was stuck at just 2 they would be:

1: A room big enough to put a station to build and a separate one to paint.

2: A shelving unit to hold all the completed builds I have done.

Hey I'm still working on models in my living room.  There are some benefits to living alone.  So a room would be a start.

A room or area dedicated just for modeling.

The kitchen table is a pain to work at. And keeping all my supplies in a small toolbox isn't much fun either.  Sad [:(]

Thanks guys.. keep them comming. I am lucky enough to have my entire detached garage for my paint shop/hobby room. I also do some air art so I needed a dedicated area for large pieces.

A dedicated area would be nice.  And hopefully in a clean bright area with a window or two rather than tucked away in some musty corner of a basement.

I'm like the some of the others and have to constantly move my work to and from the kitchen table.  A permanent spot with enough room to put a desk and leave my stuff undisturbed would be terrific.

I posted my results on a different thread. I am still in the process of converting my entire garage into my own humble abode. I put my desk on locking casters to make the moving a breeze. I am constructing a dedicated paint booth with a 100cfm fan and a heater to rapidly dry my auto paint projects. Its comming along. I am hoping I can actually sit down and use the thing in the next two weeks.

Yeah only 2?

A spray booth in the same area as the desk.

A built in that covers an entire wall... Oak trim and full glass doors and shelves with lighting of course with shelves deep enough for the occasional 1/24 a/c.

My two would be;

1) more counter and shelf space - I have a good sized desk, with a pull-out keyboard shelf (I put the kit box and the sprues I'm not working with at the moment) as well as a second and third levels, but I seem to have everything I need crammed onto it.  Paints, glues, tape, AM stuff, kits in several stages of assembly and I can never keep it organized!

2)a spray booth, so I could paint and let cure away from all the dust and mess of where I'm building.

A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm; every meal is a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade... The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy? Yeah...The Men's Department.

Stay tuned. You might get some ideas from my current garage re-fab.

For me, the biggest considerations are adequate room for your subject, and proper lighting.  The former varies according to what you build - one fellow I know builds magnificent 1/1250 models out of a large utility closet.  I build large ship models (the biggest so far is 8 feet long), so my shop is big (a move out to the country after many years of city living lead to finally being able to build my dream shop)

As these days I mostly scratchbuild, one thing I find very useful are multi drawer cabinets I made to hold things like styrene strip and brass shapes - these are under my main bench where I can get to them readily.

By the way, the photos were taken as the shop was being completed.  I can assure you that it has never been that neat since LOL

I would have to say a TV on the backside of my modeling desk.  I am a closet modeller, literally, but a TV mounted on the back of the closet would be awesome.  I would never leave.  But my wife realizes that and therefore it will never happen.  :/
