Glue Dispenser

I was looking at the micro-mark web page and saw this micro glue applicator

Well I thought to myself.  That looks just like a sewing needle with the very back end cut off and attatched to a paint brush handle.  So I did exactly that (except I heated the sharp end up and stuck in a piece of sprue.  It works great.  I never like using just a needle to apply super glue because it just seems to go everywhere.  I did try makeing a loop but I didn't like it either.  I actually used the needle that I used to use to spread glue.  I took my dremel and a cut off disk and VERY CAREFULLY cut the back off.

In the Feb 07 FSM, pg. 16, there is photo of the same thing.  The photo caption says it is a sewing needle with the top of the loop cut off.  I'm going to have to try it, it looks like a great alternative to my toothpick.

Well I guess someone else got the idea first.  Owell.  And that sounds like what I did.

Chucked my cut needle in an old X-acto knife handle and it works great. No need to Dremel-cut the end of the loop though - a small pair of sidecutters will take it off quick and easy (Just close your eyes or wear safety glasses!) Smile [:)]When the tip gets gunked up you can hold it over a Bic lighter and burn off all the dried CA. If I am doing a lot of CA work I just leave a little tealight candle burning off to the side and hold the tool over it when it needs clearing. Wipe off a little soot and you are back in the game.

Does the burning/burnt CA glue give off toxic or unpleasent odor?

It does I suppose, faintly, but we are talking about the very tiny amount that builds up between the prongs of that cut needle. Between CA, CA kicker, CA debonder, regular old model glue and such, I have taken to placing a small fan on the edge of my bench to offer a little airflow. Nothing like what my spray booth offers, and even then only if I am doing a LOT of work with stuff.
