Tamiya epoxy putty
Posted by Old Pappy on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 8:38 PM
I tried Tamiya's slow-cure epoxy putty for making weld seams on the upper hull of an AFV, and it worked great, except IT STICKS TO YOUR @#*&!^ FINGERS LIKE BUBBLE GUM!  Is there any way around this?  I tried dipping my fingers in water, per instructions, but that was no help.  I love the slow cure time on this stuff, and it looks great when it sets, but- sacre merde, it's infuriating to handle!  Any solutions?

I know, I have toruble with that, too. And I havn't found a way around it yet. I think it's just one of those "nature of the beast" things.

 I'm open to suggestions, too.

I don't know if it will have any negative effects on the weld, but you can try putting some non-stick cooking spray on your fingers.

I would test it on a non vital piece of plastic, but in theory, it should work.

I saw a Japanese mag show a modeler use this to simulate the canvas covers on an F-14. Looked great!

Try rubbing some ordinary liquid soap on your fingers, to avoid the putty to adhere to them.

Hadn't thought of soap- it should be pretty easy to remove any residue after the putty sets, before painting.  I'll try that- Thanks!

The trick to this stuff is the same as plumber's epoxy putty................rubbing alcohol. Just pour some into a small bowl and keep it next to you. Dip fingers into bowl as needed. Also use it for final clean up. I finally switched over to Magic Sculpt because it actually does smooth with water. And its cheaper and not so finicky about getting the amounts spot on.

Probably about the same, but some water should help that. Final clean up with any EP needs a dish soap, etc.
