Micro Chisel problem
Posted by sawdeanz on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 8:49 PM
Hey, I don't know if anybody has a micro chisel, which is basicaly a very tiny chisel, hence the name. It says it was made by mission models. I was using it the other day when all of a sudden the tip came off! It looks like it is held in place by some kind of screw, but the tool did not come with another tool to fix this problem with, what do i do?

I just checked out a pic of one. Looks like the tip is held in place with a set screw that most likely requires a small allen (hexagonal) key, although I have also seen small set screws with a single slot, in which case your best bet would be a jewelers screwdriver.

They must assume you won't need the Allen wrnech until you change the tip so it is included with the new point and not the tool itself.

The problem is, of course that I don't want to purchase the new tips just so I can tighten it, so I will have to look and see if i have a small enough allen wrench.

If you don't have one check out Radio Shack.  You may have to buy a set though.

If you buy a set like that you will almost certainly be disappointed.  The Micro Chisel's set screw requires a 0.8mm (that's about 0.03") Allen key.  Most sets I've seen only go down to 1.5mm so you'd need to confirm that first.

If you purchase another tip from Mission you'll get the tool plus another set-screw.  It's always handy to have a spare.

By the way, dont tighten the screw too hard, the tool will slip in the socket and may make it useless.
