Need name of sanding tool.
Posted by TryintoModel on Monday, May 28, 2007 10:26 AM
Can someone tell me the name of the sanding stick that uses a sanding belt stretched around a stick.  The tip of the stick is in the shape of a wedge and the sanding belt folds over the edge.  I can't seem to find it on different model store sites because I don't know the name.  Swanny, if you read this, it's the sander you used on your video.

TryintoModel,

I forget what its called but I just bought one at Hobby Lobby. I've already disposd of the packaging. I believe it was the X-Acto brand as it was with all the X-Acto tools. They also had extra belts.

BTW Hobby Lobby has a 40% coupon this week.

Thats it, Bgrigg.  Is that the same type as hobby lobby has?  I'll have to go check it out, never seen them there.

Don't know, since I've never been to a Hobby Lobby! Whistling [:-^]

I'm home now, but it doesn't actually have a brand name on it. Works well, though. It's certainly the same as the one in the link. Mine's the blue one, though I put whatever grit I want on it.

So long folks!

Yes, those are identical to the ones at Hobby Lobby.

I dont believe there is any difference in the colors, they are all the same thing. Hobby Lobby had a green and light blue one on the same peg. I assumed they were they same thing and didnt look to see if they were different. It may be that the different colors come packaged with different grits. I suppose this would be for convience so you dont have to change belts and can identify grits by the tool color. Hobby Lobby also has the extra sanding belts.

The ones that Hobby Lobby sell are under the brand name of Excel, and yes they are in the same aisle as the X-acto stuff, the link that was given earlier from Micro-Mark are the original maker of them...   Excels version is very similar, but not as sturdy as Micro's....

Mine's just bare metal. Sigh [sigh] They didn't have pretty ones when I bought mine 15 or 20 years ago.

As you say, the different colored handles would work for different grits but, the different grit tapes are color coded already. Just my My 2 cents [2c].

The last package of tapes that I bought was an assortment of grits. But, I do believe you can get packets of all the same grit. They really are handy, though.
