A Scream for HELP
Posted by IBuild148 on Monday, June 11, 2007 8:45 PM

I just finished a F-14 D Hasegawa 1/48. But I totally screwed up the canopy.

Here is the short story. After assembling the aircraft with canopy anf masking it off I panited the aircraft.

I didn't like the color so asking around to find out what I could use to strip the paint off I used EASY OFF. What I didn't do was remove the masked canopy.

Now I have the right paint sceam put when I removed the mask from the canopy it has a cloudy look.

Any help or ideas on how I can remove this???

I think you might have a chance to bring it back to something close to acceptable if you dip the canopy in Future floor polish.  Check Swanny's wbsite for the complete technique.

Otherwise, you can tell your story to Hasegawa service department and ask for a replacement.

Another thing you might try is to wet sand it out. start out with a ultra fine grit (automotive) then maybe finish up with maybe super fine steel wool. just something to lightly remove the frosted apperence and get down to the clear part. A thing that works for taking off the dried paint is "goo gone" and I think there is another product that is similar but not as harsh as easy off. I seems like easy off would just start to eat the plastic its self. Just some suggestions

My opinion, first try the Future floor polish, the stuff is great. If that doesn't cut it get yourself a Micro Mesh kit, it really works great and sometimes, your clear parts look better than new.

Along the same lines of polishing, I've had luck saving a few canopies with Meguiar's Scratch X, it's an automotive scratch and swirl remover. I just applied it with a fingertip in a circular motion till it was nice and hazy, then buffed it with the tail of my T shirt.
