Is this really a tool question?
Posted by danmcmartin on Monday, August 27, 2007 9:25 PM

I guess a workbench and seat to go with it are tools so here goes.  I built a nice 42 inch high workbench in my garage and that is my modeling station.  even though 42" is a great height to work at while standing, I need a stool.  I have looked everywhere locally (Wal-mart, Lowes, Target, Home Depot, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Napa, Kragen...well you get the idea) and no luck.  Either I find stools that are meant for indoors and way to pricey or cheap wooden ones.  No nice crome leg stools like you see in the auto parts stores.  Everyone has these, but apparently you can't buy one!

Anyone have one of these?  Where did you get it?  I may end up popping for a pricier one online, but I would rather find one local and save shipping.

Ya, I am going to Harbor Freight tomorrow, but those flames are so cheesy!  My buddy said that with those flames under my behind and a whoopee cushion,I could make my 9 and 11 year old boys laugh until they pee.  I told him it doesn't take that much, I just have to utter the word.

Resturant supply!  Good idea.

I know this is an unlikely place to find a stool but do you have a "Hastings" (books, music, video store)?

I have one identical to the photo except its a Dodge Ram logo instead of flames. I wanted the green John Deere one.Boohoo [BH]

I bought it at Hastings several years ago for $15 during a sale. I know for a fact they still carry these because I saw them in the store 2 days ago.

I don't have a hastings nearby.

I bought the cheesy flame stool from HF.  It will do for now, flames or not.  At least I don't have to model standing up!

I purchased one of the Sears stools. It is pretty well made for the price. The only drawback for me is the lack of casters which would be a great asset . It is a little top-heavy, but a little caution minimizes that problem (this only becomes an issue when you try to slide it to a different location).

Try a used furniture store.  Either home or office type.  I found one similar to the Sears unit but with casters, upholstery and comfortable back for about $25.  If you have the patience check out weekend garage sales.

Linen and things if a shop is located near your place is one place you can buy that kind of stool.  I bought a bar stool that can turn 360 and the height of the stool is adjustable at this shop on a reasonable price.
