Colors of drums and jerrycans to go with Corsairs during WW2
Posted by jandrego on Sunday, March 8, 2009 3:36 PM

hi all, i need some help

for a groupbuild we are doing the Corsair on a small groundwork

i have placed the plane on an island surface (should look like one) with a few barrels and jerrycans around it

now my question : what was the color of the barrels and the jerrycans?
or did they have different colors depending of the liquid inside

thanks in advance

Jan

Two colors that will go far, Olive Drab, or whatever shade of Gray the Navy uses for the majority of their equipment and gear.

F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

The standard was the 55 gal drum which was painted OD.  It would be labeled in black as to its contents.  Jerry cans were also OD, which were also labeled.

You may have too goggle specific units.  A lot of unit sites have photographs of aircraft on hard stands with all kind of equipment around them.

55 gallon drums were also black in color with probably white stenciling.  My copy of P-39 In Detail shows a P-39 in a color photo in the Aleutians in 1942 being worked on from scarred and scratched black drums.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto]  That looks superb Jan.  Which kit did you use for the corsair?  Tamiya?
