Help identifying this car
Posted by JimWitt on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 10:35 PM

Hi all! I was wondering if anyone familiar with WW II vintage vehicles could take a look at this picture:

 www.cybermodeler.net/armor/m8/images/na_m8_01.jpg

and tell me what kind of car this is? I know, I'm clueless, but I've done some searching already on the net, and can find nothing. This picture would make a great starting point for a diorama, I'm thinking!

Thanks very much in advance,

Jim

Hi there, Jim Witt!  Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the forums!

You would probably get more and better answears on this topic by posting it under the Armour section.

The picture is very sweet.. But I have a question to you.. Which "car" do you mean? The one on the left or the right?

To say it like this, the one on the left, with a roadsign on it and a license plate starting with SS is the German truck called Opel Blitz.

The two american infront there, are M8 Greyhound's armored cars. Behind there comes an American halftrack (Not familiar with these, but should be an M3 halftrack or M16 halftrack)

Behind that again comes two Willys Overland Jeeps.  And beyond that, I got no idea Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

But I suppose you mean one of the two in the front? That is, as said, an Opel Blitz to the left and an M8 Greyhound to the right.

Hope it helps!

Lasse, thanks very much! I did mean the car on the left - the Greyhound and Jeep I recognized, but the SS car was the one I couldn't figure out.

But now I know the vehicle on the left is an Opel Blitz, so I can go from there!

Thanks again, and thanks for the welcome.

Glad it helped! Big Smile [:D]

There's one easy way to tell an Opel Blitz from other trucks (Not car, as it looks in the picture) and that's by it's distinct logo on the front.

Here's a picture of a vintage Opel Blitz:

The Opel Blitz serie of trucks were produced up till the 70's-80's. The look changed quite drasticly, however.

Very glad I could help Big Smile [:D]
