Well, I'm a fan of Hizzoner, St. Shepard of Monogram, and feel that if you only buy ONE book about building dioramas, it'd better be his... After all, he's the guy that made the diorama what it is to most of us who grew up with Mongram in the 70s and he was also my inspiration in becoming a "serious" modeler and diorama builder... Whether or not you like his work or not is moot, the techniques he used and many cases, pioneered, have inspired at least two generations of Dio-builders, and continue to do so...

i too have this book. dont think there isnt a modeller out there that doesnt. im not a shep fan by no means. while i understand his givings to the whole modelling genre, i just dont like alot of his work. just me only. however, the book does offer alot of useful tips and suggestions. just my My 2 cents [2c]

I used to have a first edition of that book but sadly it was taken with most of by books from storage a few years ago.

I just bought the newer edition.

More pix from other builders and some of his models have been cropped or only show angles not in the first edition.

Still, lot of good stuff in there.

First edition is still available on Amazon but it's expensive.

I just picked up how to build dioramas by sheperd paine.  And i would realy recomend it for any diorama makers it doesent matter what type of dios you build!  Heres a link:
