...the Jagdpanther had an 88mm...

I thought all the Panther variants had 75mm guns and only the Tiger 12.8 cm Pak 44s had 88s.  True?

The Jagdpanther was armed with the 88. I'm working on one right now.On the other hand, another Tiger variant, the Jagdtiger was armed with the huge 12.8 cm Pak44 gun.

The Panther's 75mm gun was a longer barreled, different shell that was only used on it and the Jagdpanzer IV. Not to be confused with the 75mm used on the Panzer IV and StuG III/IV. It was also later copied by the French and installed on the AMX-13/75 and post war Shermans.

Hi Mike,

It's something of a popular myth that only Tigers had the 88's.

The Jagdpanther, Hornisse/Nashorn, Ferdinand/Elefant also mounted 8.8cm guns

The Panther had a 75mm and the Jagdpanther had an 88mm  That may be the reason for the confusion.

It's said that the Panther II was to have been armed with the 88.

Okay just curious what gun did the german panther have standard, I've heard it as both 75mm and 88mm and I'm trying to sort out the confusion, thanks.
