Tiny bit of info from Archer's reference on Army camo and markings. There is a text description of a memo from the Material Center, June 13, 1942, stating the basic scheme for all AAF PBY-5 aircraft was to be non-specular blue-gray over non-specular light gray. Essentially, they were to retain the Navy standard flying boat scheme. A black and white photo on page 278 of that book seems to back that up, leaving me to wonder what color was used for the serial numbers.  Don't have anything on the Grummans and Sikorsky.

Have you flown a Ford lately?

Just googled Joe Baugher, his serial number LIST used to be included in the aerofiles sight, which I have not been unable to access of late. I'm glad to find out where it came from. The serial numbers I had came from another part of the aerofiles websight, where they describe by manufacturer,  they did not match up. I discovered a couple other errors as well, THANKS SO MUCH for the information.

Here's the corrected list:

OA-9 Grumman Goose (OA-13) JRF-6Bs diverted from Lend-Lease contracts for service with USAAF. 42-106979/106983. Redesignated A-9 in 1948

OA-10 Consolidated (PBY-5A) Catalina 1942 (56 ea. Transferred from Navy 306 ea bought from Vickers Canada)

OA-11 Sikorsky S-43 (5 ea OA-8 [37-370/-374] 1941 (1ea.VIP transport [42-01].) Civilian S-43 purchased by USAAF. Was originally NC16925.

OA-12 Grumman (J2F-5) Duck 1942 (1ea. J2F-5 & 5 ea. J2F-6 transferred from Navy [41-7771].)

OA-13 Grumman (OA-9) Goose 1942 (3 ea. OA-13A bought or ‘impressed’ from civilian sources [42-38214/38215 -97055]. 2 ea. JRF-5 transferred from Navy [45-49088/49089]. ) 42-14501 cancelled contract

OA-14 Grumman G-44 Widgeon 1942 (16 ea. ‘impressed’ from civil users 42-38216/38223, -38285, -38339/38340, -38355/38356, -43460, -53003, 44-52997].)

Thanks, first photo I've seen of this scheme. Solid white, interesting!

What is Joe Baugher's list?

I got the SNs from aerofiles.

There is a color photo of an OA-10A from the 5th ERS on Wikipedia from RAF Halesworth.  It is painted in white.  The serial numbers for the Ducks don't match up with Joe Baugher's list.

WIP:  Monogram 1/72 B-26 (Snaptite) as 73rd BS B-26, 40-1408, torpedo bomber attempt on Ryujo

I asked this question in the aircraft area, thought I'd try here too.

Looking for ANY more info on color schemes and markings for:

OA-10 Consolidated (PBY-5A) Catalina 1942 (56 ea. Transferred from Navy 306 ea bought from Vickers Canada)

OA-11 Sikorsky S-43 (5 ea OA-8 [37-370/-374] 1941 (1ea.VIP transport [42-01].) Civilian S-43 purchased by USAAF. Was originally NC16925.

OA-12 Grumman (J2F-5) Duck 1942 (1ea. J2F-5 & 5 ea. J2F-6 transferred from Navy [41-563/567].)

OA-13 Grumman (OA-9) Goose 1942 (5 ea. OA-13A bought or ‘impressed’ from civilian sources [42-38214/38215]. 2 ea. JRF-5 transferred from Navy [45-

49088/49089]. )

OA-14 Grumman G-44 Widgeon 1942 (16 ea. ‘impressed’ from civil users 42-38216/38223, -38265, -38339/38340, -38355/38356, -43460, -53003, 44-52977

There are a few pre-war and post-war photos out there but I've never seen any wartime schemes other than the Navy colors on OA-10 (PBY) Thanks for that info Mr Hammer.
