P-51D radio details?
Posted by echolmberg on Monday, September 12, 2011 8:23 AM

Hi everyone!

Does anyone know where I can find some decent pictures of the radio sets that were used on the P-51D?  I'm working on the Tamiya kit right now and wouldn't mind adding a bit of detail to the radios.  I have the Bert Kinzey Detail & Scale book with me.  While it shows great color photos of the cockpit, there isn't a single picture of the radio installation behind the pilot's seat.

I've tried looking on the web but with no luck.  Does anyone know what the name of the radio unit is?  If I had that, maybe I'd have better luck finding some information.

Any help would be great!

Thanks!

The Mushroom Media book has some fantastic pics. Not as good as I've seen of the P-38 radio arrangement, but solid enough to detail off of.

Almost as good as the book are the included 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32 scale plans. I've scanned them in so I can use them in photoshop for creating right-sized painting templates from decal profiles.

Just got their new P-47 book the other day...more plan goodness!

I had never heard of this line of books before!  I'm quite excited to see how they are.  The scale drawings are going to be great and they'll really help a lot.  Often I've been curious to see how the models compare to the actual thing like in profile and in plan form.

The "Walk-around" series book on the P-51 has pretty good coverage of that area.
