I've been compiling a list of kits, decals,... in 1/144 scale( and a few odd near scales).
Kits are listed
Genre(armor, ship...)
Country of origin
Subject
Maker-format A
The question is should DECALS be listed this way or
Genre(armor, ship...)
Subject
Country of origin
Maker-format B
and make it easier to find all the decal options for a certain subject???
Conversion kits would use format A
Detail sets would use A
What else am I missing???
Thanks!!

I think I understand your dilemma. In trying to catalogue my model collection I've found that I really need separate lists. One for A/C type, another for scale, and yet another for kit maker. It's time consuming, in constant need of updating, and basically a real pain to maintain three or more lists (which is why my list is never complete).

As for your decal list, I would start by listing them as: Subject / Livery (or Squadron, etc) / Scale / Maker, in that order.

Thanks for the suggestion. I really want to know what other modelers would find useful.
Well scale is easy-1/144. This is a 1/144 version of the comprehensive listings for 1/48 and 1/72. As for my own listing of kits (it need of updating as well), I just have one. It includes Subject, make, scale, and manufactuer (an a space for progress notes). I take advantage of the sort feature of the spreadsheet. I set a couple sorts, scale, subject, completion..., and I can use to preset sort. Handy that way.
I'm thinking an entry would look like this
Aircraft(subject)
US(origin of make)
Boeing 737-300(Make)
Denmark(Nationality)
Maersk Air (Affiliation)
1985-1999(Specific marking)
Max decals (#4406)-with... (Company(Item#)-Also on sheet)
Tell me what you think on my set up. The link is in my signature. I played with the colors recently and haven't got any feed back.
Feel free to make any comments. The only bad ideas are the ones that go unvoiced.

I was about to suggest a speadsheet to track models, I wonder if anyone has one pre-made that would be kind enough to donate it to the community? Maybe I'll finally pick up a book and learn how to make an effective spreadsheet? Hmm, that'll happen after I'm done with all my currently planned projects. Clown [:o)]
