Following is information I plagiarized off the web. It contains lighting specs and configurations for B-24D's and at least J-80-CO's.
Unit L-34 Landing Light, Type B-3, Spec. 32309
• There are two sealed beam landing light assemblies located just inboard of the wheel wells, one in each wing.
“Unit L-36 Navigation Lights: Six lights are located as follows:
• One red light on top and one on bottom of the left wing tip;
• One green on top and one on bottom of the right wing tip;
• One white light on outboard surface of each vertical stabilizer.
“Formation Lights: There are seven formation lights; all lights are blue.
• Three mounted on top of the rear compartment of the fuselage
• Four on the horizontal stabilizer.
“Passing Light: The Type B-3, Spec. 94-32118
• The red passing light is located in the left leading edge between engines No. 1 and No. 2.
“Recognition Lights: There are four recognition lights;
• One on the top center of the fuselage (white) type E-1
• Three (red, green, amber) Type E2 mounted in the skin under the bomb bay catwalk.
“Bomb Release Lights:
• The bomb release lights (white and red) for formation flying are located at the extreme aft end of the ship under the tail turret.
• The white light goes on when the bomb bay doors have been FULLY opened.
• The white light goes out and the red light goes on during the bomb release period and is extinguished 5 seconds after the last bomb has dropped.
• Note: When behind the aircraft and looking forward, the white light was on the left (pilot’s) side.
