Jolly Rogers and the F-14
Posted by eizzle on Sunday, December 25, 2005 10:29 AM
I have seen many pics of what looked like an F-14D with the Jolly Rogers markings, but everything I have read says that they flew the "A" in VF-84 (i think?) and the "B" in VF-103. So did they ever fly the "D", or am I mistaking the "B" model for a "D"? Thanks in advance guys, and I checked the links in a couple other threads and that is basiclly what I found out?

Yep, your right Ed, the VF-11 did fly the "D", at least that is according to the Hasegawa F-14D decal sheet, if you want to believe that or not? Big Smile [:D]

An uncle of mine who was killed in Vietnam flyin' RA-5C Vigilantes (RVAH-9) had flwn with the Red Rippers in '58 and while researching his career I ended up with a squadron history on VF-11 showing the diferent aircraft they had flown since it's inception in the late 20s!!Shock [:O]  It's tucked away in a box somewheres & if I come across it, I'll let ya know.Smile [:)]

I didn't have to. My mother bought me the Hase F-14D for Christmas and it had both the "A" version and "D" version doors, so I was able to use that one! I glued it in place before the carpet monster had a chance to attack it, now I just got to get her painted!

I haven't painted it yet Ed, I just got the door put on the other day and I've been out of town since Thursday, I just got home yesterday afternoon. Hopefully soon thought, I think I am getting a new job in the next couple days, so that is going to seriously cut into my model building time Big Smile [:D] (12 hours a day, 7 days a week! Dead [xx(]) but I will have a lot more money flow so maybe I can actually buy some equipment I need, like a compressor! That would be fabulous, cause I don't think I can paint this whole thing with just my air tank, it doesn't last long enough!

I was checking those compressors out, seems like a real good deal, especially since it comes with the water trap and gauge! Does it have an adjustable air pressure, or is it fixed?

it's fixed but, I think they do make a regulator attachment for it to be adjustable.  check out their website or, a store near you.  I haven't used it much so can't comment on it's performance. Bought it &  an A/B they had on sale.

I found it on the website, but I think there is a store about an hour from here, I will have to stop by there next time I'm in the area. I saw all the small auto touch up paint guns they had, that would be pretty good for laying down paints on some of the bigger planes and really good for color coats on cars, then break out the airbrush for the smaller detail work. How does there A/B perform?

It seems to be a fairly decent  gun. I'm not an expert on A/Bs as this is my first oneShock [:O] I've used automotive & commercial sprayers before while painting houses.  This lil thing here seems to be pretty good for what I want. Nothing fancy.
A bottom feeder & adjustable tip. what more could a guy ask for??Confused [%-)] More MODELS!!Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]

The double action is pretty easy, once you get used to it. The first time I tried it, I hooked everything up, filled the paint cup, and pushed the button... nothing but air!? I was thinking great, spend $80 on an airbrush, and have only had it for 1 day, and I broke it already! AHH!!! Of course, then I remembered that you have to pull the button back Big Smile [:D]Sign - With Stupid [#wstupid]Dunce [D)]Mischief [:-,] After that little bit of drama, it has been pretty easy, except when I pull the button back to far without thinking Laugh [(-D]
