OIF III AH-64D reference photos
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 8:25 PM

I've just posted some photos from a recent, um, business trip overseas at http://photobucket.com/albums/c211/Hamchuck/

along with various other shots.  I've blotted out anything sensitive (radio freqs, weapon loads, etc) but there's still plenty there that should be helpful.

Wow!  Great source of reference material.  I especially liked the "modeler's reference" set of photos.  Thanks for sharing!  One quick question....is the aircraft in the "modeler's reference" an "A" or a "D"?  I thought I saw somewhere that there are "D's" that have not been upgraded to the Longbow configuration that look similar to the "A".  Am I off base there?

Thanks

Sorry, I've been off the net for a while.  The aircraft is a D model.  D models are all called Longbows, regardless of whether the radar is installed, which is what I assume you're talking about.  I suppose without the radar they look similar to an A model from a distance, but radar or not they all have the greatly enlarged fairings on the sides of the forward fuselage, air data probes mounted on the engine nacelles instead of on the rotor head, glass cockpits, and a bunch of other little details.  We removed the radars from our birds for most of our time over there.
