Glenn:

If you are still interest in 97286,  I know her complete history from the day she left the Vought factory.   I was born and raised in Tallulah and Scott Field in particular.  I'm a real big fan of Ole' Blue.  She is one of the finest airplanes ever built.

Hi Glen,

I was stationed a NAS Olathe in the late sixies long after the Corsairs were gone, but was surfing looking for any info on Oathe and came across your request. I'm sure by now you must have done the same, but In case yu haven't , I Googled "Corsair 97286" and hit on a lot of info on this old bird. I hope that  it is of some help to you.

  Hi ya'll,

I'm looking for pre-1957 information on an F4U-4 corsair, B/U 97286, that last flew with the Naval Air Reserves in Olathe, KS in the mid 50's. This particular aircraft was bought by Bob Bean in '59, sat in storage until Merle Gustafson bought her in '72 and restored her to flying state. She flew in airshows as "The Angel of Okinawa" until Mr Gustafson passed away in the mid '80's, and is now on display at an air museum in Florida. I've found tons of info on websites about her since '59, but does anyone know of any sites that can help with earlier information? Thanks in advance for your help.
