I have the book Combat Legend Messerschmitt Bf109 by Jerry Scutts. It's a decent book , has some nice photos and color profiles. It covers the full range of the series from the protoypes all the way through to versions used after the war. The book is 96 pages long, so obviously it lightly touches on the subject, but it is a great supplement to my BF109 reference library.
I haven't seen the Spitfire book, but I would imagine it's very similar to this one.
