British Special Air Service Jeep

Someone gave me this Tamiya kit recently, the British SAS Jeep. Anyone know where it would usually be used, when it was used, and any reference pics. There are a few in the instructions, but I want more. Any info would be helpful since I've never heard of this vehicle in 1:1 scale or kit form...

The Tamiya version was used in North Africa during WW2. Italeri did a much better version that was used in Northern Europe after D-Day. The kit itself is really old, 30+ years old, and there are several conversions to make the new Tamiya Willys MB Jeep into the SAS Jeep.

The version in the Tamiya kit is a field converted version where they literally stripped off the excess items like canvas cover and windshield and cut off the radiator grills and added the condensation tank to the front. With some minor updating, it can be built into an award winner.
