I started out building models in the late 60's and 70's as a kid. As my taste for better models grew...I had to buy reference material (books) so that my models looked better.
So I started collecting military books of some of my favorite models. I would buy a model...then search for a book that gave me the best detail to build that particular model.
The funny thing is...I never had time to build the models that I bought...so I only looked at the books that I purchased usually once...then stored them.
99 percent of the books that I have...were bought from a bookstore new. There are no second hand or library books.
Also, most are first edition
