Floquil Hobby paints
Posted by Bikerbob on Sunday, April 19, 2015 3:16 PM

Hi guys

I live in Ontario Canada and looking for hobby shops that can supply Floquil paints. It is my understanding that at present they cannot be shipped from US to Canada. What do you people use that is currently avaiable?

I don't believe Floquil is produced anymore; Testors discontinued it.  I used to use certain colors regularly, and particularly liked Floquil flat.

Testors Model Master paints should be available in Canada; I thought I read Testors even produced paint in Canada, including what they used to call the Model Master II line.

The only Flouquil you can find are Railroad colors.

There are some useful colors in their railroad line.  Their grungy blacks are great, as is the rust.

Yes, Testors discontinued producing both of the Floquil paint lines. Whatever you can find out there in somebody's close out stock is it...

...............and the stores in Chicago area sold out of the most popular colours such as Grimy Black overnight once it became known that Testors would discontinue the brand.

Same here... All the railroad hobby stores that carried their paints were cleaned out. Testors has introduced some railroad colors in their acrylic line, but I am no fan of their acrylics. In my experience they are mediocre at best...

A LHS in my area still has some Floquil RR colors in stock. Looks like a trip is in order to see if he has any Grimy Black left

Yeah, their silvers and blacks are the best... And Earth is an excellent match for the Sand color used in Desert Storm that was supposedly a locally produced and procured paint for equipment redeployed from Europe.

Vallejo seems to be picking up at least some of the slack - at least in terms of railroad colors. Here's a link to the Micromark site: www.micromark.com/SearchResult.aspx . Micromark caters to the model railroad trade, and stocks quite a few Vallejo railroad colors (including the various blacks). It's good paint; I've got quite a few bottles of it, though I'm still getting used to it.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

Yes, the Floquil and Polly Scale Railroad color lines were discontinued before summer 2015. Any shops having them in stock have only what is on hand, and then it's done. The new Testors acrylic Railroad paints are not exact matches to the old lines. And the selection is far more limited. Perhaps two dozen colors in the line at most.

Rustoleum's revamp of the Testors paint line ups has been one step forward and three steps back. A few new colors introduced, and a lot more old colors discontinued.
