Flory wash delivery time
Posted by wpwar11 on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 6:41 AM

Heard great things about Flory clay based washes.  Ordered some yesterday.  Anyone know how long to arrive in the States?  I ordered direct from Flory Models website.

I normally allow 2 weeks for anything coming the other way, so i would say about the same. I order direct and being in the UK its normally here within a few days. So its all down to the postal service.

Thanks.  I think two weeks is reasonabe.   Have you used the Flory wash before?  I want to add some color enhancement and grime to a USN jet in blue/grey color.  I ordered a few colors and like that I can mix them.  I’ll experiment on some scrap pieces to determine right color.

I've been useing it for years as my go to for weatehring aircraft. I tend to apply an all over wash and then remove excess, but then i am mainly doing WW2 aircraft. I find it best applied to a gloss surface and it often take me several goes to remove excess. I find it can bead up on some paint surfaces and adding a small drop of washing up liquid to the bottle will help break surface tension.

I am in the US and have ordered directly from Flory. Like Bish, I have used them on almost all of my aircraft and really like the product a lot.

Although I can't remember exactly how long my last order took to arrive, if it were more than a couple of weeks it would have annoyed me and I would have remembered. So I'd agree with Bish, I think 2 wks or less is a safe assumption.

IMO, it's worth the wait to have some on hand. I hope you get along as well with the product as I have. It's really forgiving of mistakes and therefore great for me.

Everyone seems to have a good experience with it.  I’m certainly willing to wait a couple weeks for delivery and ultimately a better model.  The tutorial on his website is very well presented.  They make it look so easy.  Anyway, it should be fun.

Cheers. I look forward to future discussions

Use paint brushes that you don't use for anything else supposedly other products on the brush can contaminate the Flory.I remember seeing that on their site.

You’re 100% right.  I was ready for them to offer brushes for an add on sale during the how to use tutorial. However I think they only sell washes, pigments, and sanding items.

It takes at least 2 weeks to arrive to the US From the UK . I ordered the washes a while back and the first order was lost. I emailed them and got a replacement set sent Really fast.
The washes are fantastic. Make sure you follow the directions and you will get fantastic results.

I too love his washes.  I really want to get some of his sanders too.  If everyone doesn't mind me asking...when you order straight from him, how does the currancy exchange work?  Do you use a credit card and they handle it?  Just curious.

I did find a vendor in Leadville, CO that carries Flory products but have not heard of them and they don't post any postage prices.  High Altitude Hobbies is the vendor.  Anyone deal with them before?

I just put something in the cart at this site and it looks like $7.50 shipping for the asst. sanders item.  Not bad.  I'm sure it is a bit if you order From Flory's itself with it coming from across the pond.

Bobby, when I ordered it had a flat shipping rate and wasn't expensive at all. I forgot how the rate exchange was but it was not expensive but reasonable. As far as I know, he has no one selling his products except directly from him in the UK.

Thank you sir.  I would like to order straight from him and make sure he gets the orders.  I have not heard about this place in Colorado.  Didn't know if anyone else has.  I'm thinking of ordering more washes and the asst. pack of sanders.

I really enjoy watching Flory's vids on YouTube.  Have thought about becoming a member too.  Like you said, his prices are fair and he makes a great product.

With the way the £ has gone the last few years, it will be cheaper for you guys to buy from the UK than it was pre 2016. I really like his sanding sticks, a nice range of grades and you can get in some tight places with them.

You used to be able to buy his stuff at Hannants and a few other on line sites but a few years ago he went to just selling them himself.

Nice of you to report back. I'm sure we're all glad you had a positive experience after talking up his product and service.

Hi Bobby,

I second what Ernie said. It is painless to order direct, and yes they handle the currency conversion.

And I'm also a fan of the videos and the sanding supplies.

Hey Greg.  Thanks for the info.  I wasn't sure how that all went down using a CC online for overseas purchases.

He has some great vids doesn't he?  The crew he has is really knowledgable and they are a hoot to watch.  I think I'm going to order his asst. pack of sanders.  They look really nice and everyone says they are great.

Thanks Greg!

You bet.

Back to the videos, there are so few youtube videos on modeling which are done well. Like Paul Budzik's, Flory's are a refreshing exception to the usual sleep-inducing fare.

BTW, I think good choice on the sanding sticks. I don't want to place another order just for more right now, wish I'd ordered more and a better variety of them.

Hope you have a good experience, Bobby. Let us know.
