Emergency Strip close to getting her markings
Posted by Quagmyre on Sunday, November 14, 2004 1:18 AM
Her she is; almost ready for the decals and sealer. Gonna have to touch up a few things here and there. Tough to know where to stop on this one for now since future plans (few months from now) are to put her in a maintenance theme diorama. And I know I'll want to add/modify things to get it to work once I get her placed in the actual diorama. Mechanics working on port engine, .50-cals being armed in the front nose, and I'm sure a few other things will come to mind between now and then.

Thanks for the comments all.

I used Verlinden's W-C R2600 engine for the port engine. Styrene and tinfoil for the frame around it (frame needs to be weathered just a tad). Eduard PE parts where used (i.e., ammo belts in nose, antennae, bomb bay, and cockpit). The ammo boxes in the nose are from Meteor Production's .50 caliber guns. I have some leftover ammo belts and guns from the MP stuff that will likely be used in the diorama. Left over PE stuff will either be used in the diorama as well, or in "Princess" once I get her going again.

Panel lines were shaded with Tamiya OD... it's much, much darker than MM Acryl OD which "Strip" is done in overall. "Princess" will likely be this darker OD color. Funny since in my signiature "Strip" is actually the darker of the two. "Princess" will be completed gear up and in flight when done.

Great looking model. Very nice job so far. Should be an interesting diorama when finished. Thanks for sharing.

Ryan:
Like those nose guns. Gives a whole new meaning to the term "He got drilled."
(I think you have to see the pixel-shift effect on my screen to get the joke. Sorry.)
I was thinking of using the hinged gun compartment on my AM B-25G, but after seeing your J, and all you did you make that beauty, I think I'll just slap a little CAA on that clamshell and let it go before I embarrass myself. Besides, I have an AM C/D to convert to something else before I get around to the G.
So, can you divulge what colors you used for the cockpit and the rear parts of the fuselage? I assume the bomb bay is NM. Which reminds me of something I saw yet again just this morning:
One thing I've noticed from examining a number of photos, all the B-25 bomb doors I've seen have NM inner skins with the lightening holes, but on the inside of the outer skin, which you can see through the lightning holes, it is anywhere from yellow to green chromate, and there are three or four ribs running the length of each door. If you're using the Eduard bomb bay, it's easy to do this little piece of realism, because they give you that perforated bomb door, and the outside skin as well. All you have to do is curve the door on the kit part, add the stringers (from Evergreen) and paint it chromate.

That's a very nice looking piece of work. It's obvious that you have put a lot of effort into it and I'm looking forward to the final result - should be spectacular.

Forgot to mention the other thing I did to this (but doesn't appear in the pics) is cutoff the wing flaps and glue them back on in the down position. Took some putty work to get that to look somewhat convincing.

So far I'm happy. It's got one or two bugs, but camera angles can take care of that Wink [;)]. Just a little nervous about decal placement. I've rarely had good fortune with decals and these decals are the reason I built this plane. Sigh [sigh]
