The first picture is the Aux Air Doors.  They would be open when the gear is down.  The inside color is flat insignia red.

The second question is the blast panels were made of titanium and would get very dirty from the exhaust.  Use MM titanium with a mixture of steel to lighten up the paint.  After it cures use a wash of black to cover the panels to simulate exhaust stains.

The burner can secondary AB eye lids should be painted dark titanium on the outside.  Inside the eyelids should be painted the same color but dry brush with a light mixture of exhaust and black.  The primary AB eyelids should be painted dark titanium with a wash of dirty black.  Inside the exhaust area is a light to dark green AB liner drybrushed with light gray and black streaks.  If you want to show a high time engine the AB liner will be a dark or ash gray color, drybrushed with darker gray and black.

Above the blast panels are the shingle panels and they should be painted in steel and titanium mix.  They did not get dirty like the blast panels but would crack very easy and had to be changed.  So if you want lighten individual panels to reflect this.

You'll probably hear from  couple of guys here who actually worked on F-4s, but perhaps I can help a little. The openings under the wing are auxilary air inlet doors that would open when the landing gear was down. IIRC, they'd also snap open when the jet was shut down, so you pretty much always see them open on operational F-4s. Museums usually close them. The insides of the doors were insignia red, and the underside of the engine was various metallic colors. The airframe parts in that area seem to be zinc chromate or Interior Green.   There used to be a company that sold a neat little resin insert for that area, but they're long out of business.

For the areas around the afterburner nozzles, I'd start with Steel and then darken things with Exhaust. I am building my first Phantom, a Revell kit and so far no major problems. 

I have no technical experience with this aircraft. I just like its storied past, the way it looks and have always wanted to build one.

Which one are you building? The F-4C or the F-4J? and if it is the Charlie model are you doing it in SEA camo or ADC gray? BTW if you do SEA camo you could try painting it ADC Gray first and then put the camo on top as was done on the actual birds. BTW Testors MM FS16473 Aircraft gray is also ADC Gray so if you have any of that laying around you are good to go.

Hmm never mind That looks like a Hasegawa bird in Revell packaging Probably a Echo model.

The wing has slat actuators so it has to be an -E.  Revell/Monogram never did a slatted -S.

I'm afraid there are no American F-4F's only LuftWaffe F-4F's the F-4F was the export model of the F-4E hence the nose gun. So basically it is the same as a E model on the outside the only difference would have been the cockpit.

Yeah you can use that scheme on your F-4F.

When I initially bought this kit it was because I wanted to build a Phantom. Since that time I have learned quite a bit from GOOGLE and here on FSM from former posts and replies.

So far this Revell kit has given me no problems and it has been a delight to assemble. After doing a search for decals I have selected Eagle Strikes, West German Bundesluftwaffe commemorating the 35th anniversary of JG 72 with the galloping white horse.

However I am hoping someone can help me with the "RED' and "BLUE" colors. Eagle strike says that these where nonmilitary colors and I buy that.

Following are 3 photos of where I am with this build. 1 is the real aircraft I am building the other 2 are 1 primed and 2/3 where I have laid the Flat White down.

I was trying to find the official RAL colors used for this aircraft and I even emailed Bundeswehr and did receive an e-mail from a Sergeant Major telling me that, "There are no documents available concerning the former aircraft."

With that said, I have decided to use Tamiya's Flat White, Flat Red and Blue thinned with white to come close.

Its been a few weeks since my last post were I was going to paint.

Unfortunately my feeble attempt at mixing the colors failed so I contacted ScaleFinishes.com, Jameston Kroon to see if he could.

He did and I well am pleased with the results.

Following is an update on this build. As mentioned earlier the 2 challenges that I foresaw where the colors and the "Large" Eagle Strike decal for the underside of the this aircraft.

The color issue was solved by scalefinishes.com. Once I laid the paint down my confidence grew.

After careful thought on how to place this decal because the auxiliary doors where in the open position and you only get one shot, I think it turned out An over abundance of Micro Sol also help.

Now onto the upper fuslage decals.

Comments, suggestions, thoughts welcome.
