Converting to Polly Scale
Posted by Levon on Monday, May 24, 2010 11:00 AM

Hey guys, I am going to switch my hand brush painting from Tamiya to Polly Scale.  I have had success with handbrushing Tamiya, but the fumes it gives out is bothering my family and I in the home.  I have tried Polly Scale and it seems to be much better, plus it is amazing at hand brushing.  Better than most paints I have tried.  So here is my question.  Of the following Tamiya paints, which one would be the Polly Scale equivalent?  I would deeply appreciate any help.

XF-24 Dark Grey
XF-63 German Grey
XF-59 Desert Yellow
XF-60 Dark Yellow
XF-65 Field Grey
XF-57 Buff

I have a two year old son, and the only time I can paint is at night, but I don't have very good air circulation in the garage.   I'm not giving up on Tamiya, but I need an alternative.

One side note, how is Model Master Enamel for handbrushing? Just curious. This means a lot

For brush painting, I can't say enough good things about Vallejo paints.  Give them a shot.  I love the dropper bottles which keeps the paint from drying up, water based acrylics, so no smell, and excellent color coverage, even with lighter colors.

Guys, just got an e-mail from Testors.  They confirmed that YES, Pollyscale's militray line of paints is being discontinued.  There is no timeframe, but once a paint runs out, they will not be producing anymore of it.  It's a shame, they handbrush amazingly well.  They cited the slow economy and sales of Polly Scale.  I wish they would use the formula from Polly Scale to enhance MM Acryl, or at least expand the Acryl line.
