Czech Master's 1/35 Snipers - "Shooter Ready"
Posted by modelchasm on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 8:44 AM

I haven't posted anything in a good minute here, but its not b/c I haven't been busy. So I figured it was time to post a recent build.

These sniper figures from Czech Master's were picked up on eBay as part of a "lot" auction. They were listed as pro built for a commissioned project. However, I simply bought them b/c I got 9+ decent figures (none of which were painted all that great not to mention) all for about $50. The figures ranged from Verlinden, Warriors, CMK, and maybe one or two others. These snipers alone are about $25-30 new. Even though I got in trouble from the wifey, I feel good about the deal.

The fleshtones are/ were done horribly. I might as well just say flesh TONE, as there isn't really any variation. The suits are done decently, but could use a little more shadowing and highlighting. The shooter's barrel was added/ replaced using a hypodermic needle. I have no idea why the spotter would be looking through binos ... I always was under the impression that the spotter always had a more powerful scope than the shooter. But, I guess binos would be in their inventory ... in a 1/35 world! The spotter also comes holding a "ghillied" sniper rifle, but I will be swapping it for an M4 w/ a 203 attached. Something w/ a little more ... support.

The base is just a wooden thing from Hobby Lobby, and the "tree" is from the yard. I started working this piece this morning and plan on finishing it tonight. I thought about stripping the paint, but I think I'm just going to work w/ what's there and add to it.

Anyways ... here we go ...

The spotter ...

The shooter ...

The base ...

Test fitting ...

I also plan on adding in some grasses from Woodland Scenics ... all in all, this little vignette should cost me about $12-15 to complete.

... and ... its just one more modern piece that will go to the show next week.

As always ... any and all C&C welcome. Enjoy!!

Calling this one done.... Not too bad for finding cheap figures and making a base for them in about 2-3 days.

Here's some more in-progress shots first ...

I've added some "kiddie" clay for a thin base for the GW. I went back over it w/ a little water to help get prints out and to texture it.

A base coat of paint was add, then paint was mixed w/ Future and the base was painted again. After everything was added ... trees, people, debris, etc ... more Future/ paint mix was added and then finished off w/ coat light coat of pure Future.

The figures also go tht same treatment as the GW to help tie them in ...

... AAAAAnd the finished product ...

Sorry for the last couple pics ... I wasn't thinking when I was color correcting w/ PS. Oh, well.

I'm planning on taking this one to the show in near Austin next weekend as part of my "modern arsenal", so I hope it passes the smell test.

As always, all C&C welcome ...

VERY NICE!!! You did a FANTASTIC job on this! Smile [:)]  Good composition and layout and the figures are well done! Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

BTW, are these figures OOP?  I can't find any CMK snipers online...unless I'm looking in the wrong places.

Ummm .... I'm not sure if they are OOP or not, but I know that you can still get them at Sprue Brothers. Although, honestly, I wouldn't highly recommend them. These guys are cast pretty much in one piece and can only be used as seen. I doubt that anyone would be able to mod these as they are ... it'd be more worth your time to scuplt some from scratch.

Thanks for the compliments CJ and senojrn .... I'm hoping the judges will like them as much as you do!

BTW .... look for a MUCH needed update on my "Mog" build coming up very soon ...

AWESOME! Thumbs Up [tup] I LIKE IT especially the diomara!  I was wondering if I can find all of those cool dried plants at my local shop such as Hobby Lobby or Michael's?

It will be cool to add a bird at top of the tree as a twist... cause snipers were so quiet that the bird had no idea they were there the whole time! LOL

I was being lazy ... "CJ" is shorter than "Tom" ... haha!

Thanks for the comments, deaf. All the plants, except for the grasses, are from a stick I found on the ground. Its from a Live Oak tree w/ a little mistle-toe in it. The grasses are from Woodland Scenics ... I picked them up from Hobby Lobby.

And yes, Tom, I've been hammering away at "Mog" .... I'll be updating it tonight .... (the bird is done minus a couple of painting details. The building is at about 75%, and the "riding" figures are at about 60% ... but I'm hoping to have the paint dry by sometime tomorrow.) I've still got one base (for the SAS figures) that I need to make and then I'll be ready to start packing for the show. WOO - HOOOOO!!!!

Hey Steve! Good to know! I'll most likely be the only retard there w/ an Aggie shirt on ... or maybe not if I know what's good for me! hehe....

But you'll definately be able to spot me though .... my favorite "shooter's" cap has the same logo as my avatar.

Hope to see you there!

really like how the base and "dirt" was blended on the figs, kinda reminds me of COD4 when Captain price has his flashback in cheronobyl.

Nice job on the base and the figures. I thought about doing a diorama on a WWII american sniper in 1/35 but I am still working on my diorama skills.

Calvin, Jet ... Thanks again for the comments. I can't take full credit for this one thought ... honestly, it just seemed to fall right in line. The moment that I saw the stick on the ground, I immediately thought of these figures. Everything literally just fell into place.

Thanks again for checking this one out ....

Hey Will- they're coming along actually- you seen em over on HLI recently? I even scratched a little radio mic

Hey maybe it just me Scott (I know I commented before, but all the awesome struck me at once and I missed it) but what happened to the M4/203?? Maybe it's in there, all covered in mud and swamp and the spotters crouched over top of it, but.. I can't see it lol

Not that it's a problem, and you can always say "it's in there" and one would have to break things apart to prove one way or the other. Just wondering..

But I really love this one, awesome setting for some hidden shooters!!!

well chris, he cant say it's in the mud as it wouldnt fire then...what's the point of being a sniper then...also, dont want to find yourself in trouble if you get spotted and cant shoot back!!! Whistling [:-^] but scott...know how busy u are but...what happened with this one at the show?????

haha I didn't mean burried under the mud, I just meant it was hiding back in there behind the log and all that growth, plus the spotter blocks any view from the back, just hard to pick out if it's hiding in there or not

Well, You guys know me .... I thought about not putting it in there since you couldn't see it when I did the test fit. However, I did end up adding the M4/ 203 into the vignette. It sits just in front of the spotter, buttstock resting on the ground. I thought about resting it against the tree next to him, but I thought that would look just a little off as he wouldn't have positive control of it at all times.

I'll try to get a pic of it and post it .... but just for you, Chris ... just for you. HAHA!!!
