Winter Warriors II - The Wintering!
Posted by dupes on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 2:06 PM

Back by very popular demand, it's the sequel to 2007-2008's Winter Warriors GB! Time is rapidly approaching to get this one started...wearing a hat and gloves today here in Maine, and snow can't be too far behind. So, head to the LHS and stock up on Tamiya XF-2 (or X-2 if you're feeling saucy) because in four short weeks it's time to build. Big Smile

Organizational stuff:

Winter Warriors II (or WWIITW...or "The Wintering" - your preference Wink) is open to armor and aircraft. All scales allowed, all AM allowed, OOB allowed. No real rules other than your build MUST be painted in a whitewash scheme, and must be unstarted when you join! A reference photo or color plate of your subject in said paintjob is highly recommended.

Running dates will be from 1 December 2009 to 31 March 2010. Hopefully by the first of April we'll be back outside! There will be no extension in order to make way for the summer GBs.

Badges (claimable only upon completion of your build):

Armor:

Aircraft:

That's it! Everyone is welcome...let me know what you're planning on building, and I'll update the roster of participants. Cake

For the record, I would be doing an armor kit if I had the resources, however, since my stash and my financial arrangement is very small, I'll be doing an aircraft that I had laying around. To be specific, a 1/48 Ju 87 Stuka. This is my first GB so I'm pretty stoked!

I'm in with a 1/48 Hasegawa Fw190A-4.  Dupes, to answer your question in the aircraft section, these are the kit decals for Major Hannes Trautloft, Russian campaign 1942-43.

Building Now:

1/48 Academy Bf-109G6 - 100%

1/48 Tamiya F4U-1A - 5%

Upcoming:

1/48 Revell F-14D

Would a WWII Soviet aircraft in white camo qualify? Such as La-7, Mig-3 or Il-2....ect.

Thanks

You know I'm in with either this:

or this:

To be honest, I'm now leaning towards the Sherman.  So far this year I have built only 1 allied vehicle (JS-2) as opposed to 2 German ones plus the Pz IVs not yet completed for the 1000 Roadwheels GB.

Do BOTH of them you say??  HAH!Laugh [(-D]  Not likely at my usual build speed!

Unfortunatly i won't be getting in on this as i have to many GB's already and i really must catch up on my Dio's. But i just wanted to ask, is this the same 251/2 you did for the 251 GB or are you doing a conversion job on this one.

Got the roster of builds updated to this point. Looks like some good stuff in there already, and I know that we've got a bunch of other people coming to play. Cool [8D]

Arki - we must have different boxings of that same kit, because oddly enough, that was one of my first choices for an aircraft entry. I really don't mind doing the HS-129, though...in fact, I'm getting pretty excited thinking about it. Hehehehehe.

Bish - sorry we can't get you in on this guy. Nothing in your "to build" lineup could benefit from a whitewash? Whistling [:-^] The 251/2 was supposed to have been my 2nd entry for the 251's GB after the ambulance...unfortunately I never got around to it. I was poking around my 251's book the other day and saw a sweeeet winter scheme that's dying to get done!

Absolutely! Keep in mind that the majority of those schemes were painted over the usual summer scheme, so you'll have to keep that in mind when painting your bird. I know that FSM had a great article on a beaten-up Sov winter scheme fairly recently...last year, maybe?

As much as i love your GB's and would love to get in on this, my Gb's have really piled up and i have to resist. And i already have 4 kits sitting waiting for Dio's, and it will be 8 or so by the time i have cleared the back logg. But, seeing as i was able to get hold of the cyber-hobby 251/2 after the 251 GB finished, i will be keeping a watch on this. As well as the fact that i have yet to do a white washed kit so i will be looking to get a few idea's for both armour and aircraft.

But next winter warriors, i am in.

The list of definites continues to be updated...the list is getting pretty strong! I have a feeling that this one is going to turn out to be a very productive GB. Approve [^]

SMJ - did you ever find a pic of that HST in a winter camo?

Browneyes - I took the liberty of putting you down for one of the kits in your stash that qualified.

Oddmanrush - have you ever looked into some DML 1/72 scale armor kits? They can be had really cheap...usually $10 or less if you look hard enough, and they build up reaaaaaal nice!

Dupes, thanks for the advice! Since this won't commence until Dec. 1, I still have time to pick something up, but I just thought since I already had Revell's 1/48 Stuka sitting around, I'd just use that. Plus, they look pretty awesome in a winter scheme any way.

SMJ: it's my second that I am listed for. Dupes and I are doing the 48 hour GB next weekend. Should be interesting seeing I just picked up the airbrush for the second time a few nights ago...

Mia: Sounds great!  The extended ones will be a lot more helpful as far as learning techniques etc....but that 48 hour thing sounds kinda cool too...not so easy for a family man like me though.  Have fun!
