One Year War GB 2011-2012 !Extended time! 30sept 2012
Posted by bsyamato on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 5:16 PM

Recently first series of Gundam celebrated 30 years from first time on air in Japan.

Was one of first series that included mechs (called mobile suits) that was not intended as super robot, but  just used as military veichles.

The gb cover the timeline included in first series, then from uc (universal century) 0079 till uc 0080

heres rules:

1) allowed all vehicles of this period (mobile suits, mobile armor, tanks, ships etc.) included from oav 0080 war in the pocket , The 08th MS Team, ms igloo, and all MSV derivatives from these series.

2) Started kits till 50% allowed (just have some previous picture of progress)

3) Aftermarket, stratchbuild, dioramas are wellcome.

4) just try to put a good weathering on

5) no time restriction to join, just respect endline of GB

The Group Build will start on firts of may 2011 and will end on first may 2012  30 September 2012

Heres the badge, feel free to resize or mod!

What about paint job? Do we stick to standard Gundam or can we go all out custom?

My two kits,

These, and another set of EZ8 and RX-79G, were bought on Amazon when they had a massive sale for Bandai re-distributed/re-packaged Gundam kits here during the days when Gundam Wing was still popular.  I still got another RX-79G in the original imported box without the silly 'Skill Level' defined.

Current Status as of Saturday night,

I guess a lot less was started than I remembered... from three to four years ago.

Those are beautiful kits.  there basicly the same kit, but none the less, there great.  They are perfect for doing all kinds of non anime weathering and paint jobs on.

Smeagol that's one of the funniest pictures I've seen.

Started on my kit this morning, was to do some yard work but the weather is nasty. So what better thing to do then build? Got most of the kit together not much gluing done, just wanted to dry fit most of the parts. I have to say this kit is a world away from the newest HGUC. The fit while not bad is not very good. Only took me under two hours I believe to build this. Filling the seams and sanding is probably going to take longer. Anyway on to the pics

Also would it be alright if I added this HGUC Zaku !? I have alot of work still to do on it. Fill in gaps, paint etc.

A reminder to EVERYONE

It is NOT cheating to cut off the snap together parts so you can remove the different colored parts while keeping it constructed then just gluing them back into place later.

Like the zaku I forearms take the purple part off, find out how it could go on WITHOUT snaps, cut the snaps off and modify it as you need, then fix the seams and paint them both seperatly, then glue it into place, no masking needed.

that's a good kit! if you don't glued it is better Cool . i'll add to the list, a zaku is ever a zaku!!

I'll buy another in future to make an msv conversion to "zaku worker"

Smeagol between next five minuts i'll work on other badge Yes

----------------------------------

then... i grab my Gogg from the snapped gunpla box (he want not) ...

Photobucket

....and returned to unbuilt state ! Super Angry

Photobucket

Gogg is one of the simpliest hguc kits, but hands, fingers and arms have great posability.

In mind to respect original colors, but i'll add panel lines, inner armor structures, and some other details to be choise . Backpack sure need great detail work . as Monoeye i'll use a cd player lens. Glass piece will heat-shaped using actual piece as mold.

Fortunately for painting ,knees joints have a good separation.

that's all for the start

Starting the gogg

i started with legs this time

in these areas no details to add, just glue on

Photobucket

as usual i'll sand all surfaces to improve paint grip, and to make easy drybrush shading

heres foot with some new panel lines

Photobucket

Photobucket

and suddenly a strike with humbrol black 33!

Photobucket

upper legs sanded and lined too

Photobucket

and remaining legs parts

Photobucket

as all hguc i build till now, no putty was needed , just put on a little excess of tamiya glue

Photobucket

that's all for this night.

Looking great, everyone!

Will have pics soon, promise! Camera School is interfering, since Finals are next week.

Keep up the great work.

By the way, I defined my kit to bsyamato, but the rest of you haven't gotten it. My Zaku is 1/144th Perfect Grade (a custom painted Char version).

Hey fellas! This GB is totally out of my normal building zone...but I'd love to get in on it!

Here's what I've got, want to see if it qualifies: Bandai 11069 Gundam vs Zakui (1/144). I've also got an old Revell kit which is even more suspect: Revell Robotech Defender "Condar".

Any luck with either of these?

And if any of you have a source for more mecha type kits, let me know! I'd love to snag some more.

Dupes the box you speak is the same used by GreySnake Big Smile it's on the timeline for this GB.

i have also the same box but actually only finished the zaku three years ago

heres my results

Photobucket

The macross kit are not good for this GB Sad , i hope in future to start an all mech GB.

even if out of your normal building zone, just think as an armor without track Big Smile, even me when i build my first gundam series kit just tried to use my old aircraft\helicopter weathering tecniques, i use same colors as normal kit Yes and work good . Main differences are that these kits are not real but gundam series have an entire parallel history to

pick out ideas.

If you want to join are wellcomed , just speak which (or both) kit you want to sign

Yea Dupes, the 1/144 Gundam vs Zaku is exactly in the meat of what this GB is.

Im going to be watching with interest to see what you do with those kits.

Ahhhh, excellent. Glad those kits are going to pan out! Will probably go for the Zaku (vs the Gundam), just because I can use more armor modeling techniques on it.

BTW - this thread is also showing up really weird in my browser.

Any good sources for picking up kits of this genre at a reasonable cost? They seem to be hard to come by through my usual routes. Any info highly appeciated!

i'll put you with the zaku for now.

For good sites to buy kits just wait the sure Smeaglo reply, also you can try what ebay offers, just keep in mind that gunpla are differents accuracy grades, yours are hg (high grade) ,kits before hguc (high grade universal centuri) standard.

For an istant grade compare just watch this picture , the rx-79g that you have , compared to the new kit of same subject

http://www.dalong.net/review/hg/h79/p/h79_41.jpg

http://www.dalong.net/review/hg/h79/p/h79_42.jpg

the new kit have better movements ,feet have two movable parts and plus the armor up the feet separated from ankle and movable. I have this kit and payed more than the double hg box Tongue Tied

the red zaku seen before it's in real grade, actually produced only two kits, the red zaku and the original gundam. have details as bigger 1/100 master grade Indifferent but in 1/144

To avoid surprise i use dalong site for reviews

Yea, its weird for me as well.   Om Dupes, this is the best place in the US to get gundam kits.

http://www.gundamstoreandmore.com/

they have the best prices, quite literally, and have a 110% price match guarantee.  If you are going to go outside of the US HLJ.com would be your place.

Now dupes, dont think that just because the Gundam is white, blue, red, and yellow, in typical anime fashion, does not mean you can not weather it like you would armor.  Honestly I would love to see you build both.  I am always interested in seeing armor people's take on mechs.

Flat out, when building these think of them not as a 'giant anime mecha robot' but think about it what it was portrayed as In the series.  The next new weapon, like jets before it, and tanks before that, and bi planes before that, and rifles before that, etc etc etc.  If you treat them like something from anime, it will come out looking like... well an anime thing, bright shiny fancy colors, which can look good but compared to what we know armor modelers can do, it would be disapointing.

Also Dupes, remember this, its 1/144th in scale,  remember the scale when weathering, if you weather spots to much it will make it look out of scale

That picture(1/12 scale gundam on athe toilet) is mine.  I took it when I was commissioned to build the 1/12 scale Gundam and Zaku by a local distributor for display at hobby shows.  I don't like watermarking my pictures but I do appreciate when folks ask my permission to use my pictures.

That sort of... doesn't surprise me that it was yours.  I found it on memebase.com or one of those sites.
