Oct 21, 2009 - I let my Photobucket account lapse, and it's taken me too long to fix it up. Sorry folks!
Here is a revised tutorial on posting images with Photobucket. It is created on Windows Vista, so Mac users will need to adjust Windows specific commands to their own OS:
How to post images using a web based image hosting site.
This tutorial is created to help with posting pictures to the FSM Forum. I use Photobucket (www.photobucket.com), but Imageshack and others will be similar in use. Photobucket is free, and only requires registering before you can begin:
Obviously you first need an image to upload, this tutorial presumes that you have already have a picture saved onto your computer's hard drive. I have a folder called Photobucket which stores the images I want uploaded on my desktop. Once you've saved the image you want posted, you have to login to your Photobucket account:
You DO remember your password, don't you? [:-^]
Once logged in you need to start adding images to your account. You can have different folders within your account, or just keep everything in the default folder. Begin by browsing for an image. You can also browse for multiple images, if that's what you want. Hold down the "Ctrl" button to pick and choose your images and then select "Open" to begin the upload:
You'll get a notice that the images were uploaded, and the option to add titles and tags to the images. Don't worry, they can also be added later.
So now you have successfully uploaded an image to Photobucket. Congratulations!! Now we'll work on getting that image into the forum. Within Photobucket, find the image you want uploaded, you want to select the IMG tag which is at the bottom. Use "Right Click - Copy" (note Firefox does not support this) or "Ctrl-C" to copy the image:
Now go to the forum where you want the image and paste it into the message screen. You can either right click and choose paste, or use "Ctrl-V" to paste the image. You should see something like this.
When you've completed your post, you can preview it and once satisfied post the message and image to the forums for all to enjoy. NOTE as of the last forum software update, preview no longer works. You have to post the message and use the edit function after the message loads. Clunky, but it works.
And that's it. It's a pretty simple process.
