"Latest Post" often takes me to blank page
Posted by Bick on Monday, March 4, 2013 10:28 AM

I don't know if it's me or a bug/feature but sometimes when I open a forum and click of 'latest post' for a specific thread topic I end up with a blank page. If I open the thread and click on the last page listed at the top I get the 'latest post'. Is it me?

Hi Bick,

It's not you. It happens to me, too. Which forum did it happen to you in and I'll send the link to the gurus in online. It's usually letter missing in the code.

Thanks,

Tim

Hi Tim,

Wow, what a fast response. Sorry but I don't remember which thread it happened in this morning. If it's important I can retrace where I've been. Anyway, not a biggie and I'm glad to learn it's not just me.

Thanks

I have noticed this is a few threads since the re vamp. I find if you go to the first page and then to the last, it works ok. Seems to be on longer threads.

It's a bug occurring in a number of websites currently, primarily with IE as the browser, though it could occur with other browsers.  One of the toy soldier forums that I belong to also has the problem.  At first, it looked like it occurred with threads that had posts deleted, but then it occurred with others.

It's not new here, either.  I noticed  the bug with Chukw's current build blog and with one of our Monogram Mafia threads, last year.  There's an existing thread for this somewhere in this subforum, I'm pretty sure.

I've noticed it several times in threads that were started by, uhh, "folks whose accounts have been purged", for lack of better description. (Big Russian Jet Group for one)

Yeah, the bug was happening before any of that.

OK, Butcherbird and Big Russian Group Build for sure. I'll send it over to the online team. No promises, but I'll see what they say.

I've experienced the issue in the Butcher Bird group build as well.

On the bench:  Tamyia Mosquito Mk. VI for the '44 group build.  Yes, still.

Tim,

Just a thought. It seems to me that the problem appears when the next actual post would start a new page and when you click on 'latest post' it goes to that, as yet blank, page. Once that new page has an actual post in it, 'latest post' works. Make any sense???

I have the issue in all forum pages. And some are completely blank. I will also suggest to make direct file uploads to the forum availible. I'm tired of going to copy the img code and pasting it and I know others feel the same way.

Which browser are you using? If you're having issues with the entire forum, I would guess that there is compatibility conflict, maybe with the browser's version or a setting. Let me know and I'll add your query to the others for the online team.

If you mean uploading images and movies directly to Kalmbach's servers, the amount of server space we have is prohibitively small. We couldn't house all the images that appear on the Forum.

If you mean pasting a direct link, this can be done via IE and Firefox, but it doesn' t work with Chrome right now. According to my conversation with online, this might be due to changes Google pushes out for Chrome. The Rich Text Editor is part of the Telligent's community software and we'll have to wait for either a patch for Chrome or a patch from Telligent to fix the RTE. It could also be remedied with an upgrade to the community software.

Here's a screen shot of all I get if it helps.  I'm using safari.

Yeah I don't think it's a browser issue... I've had the same thing happen to me on Firefox, Explorer, and Chrome. Seems to happen when a thread reaches a certain length. It happened on the old Japanese GB (part I) and is now happening on Tigerman's 'Big Cat' GB.

OK, guys.

Online has gone in and done some testing. They are now aware of the problem and that it's cropping up all over the place. There are a couple of other priorities that they have to take care of for other magazines and then they'll swing back through and fix this.

I will keep you posted when info becomes available. Thanks to all of you for helping us on this one and your patience as we fix it.

Thanks Tim,

I was reluctant to post because I thought I was doing something wrong - glad to hear that people who know something about it agree that it's real.

This seems to have been fixed.

I had the issue in the Butcher Bird Group Build thread, and I am no longer having the issue.

On the bench:  Tamyia Mosquito Mk. VI for the '44 group build.  Yes, still.

Not yet. It seems to be an intermittent problem--like a short. Online is aware of it now. As soon as they get back to me about a fix, I'll let you guys know.

Thanks for bearing with us,

Tim
