                        Motorcycle rider...now modeler?

                        Greetings from the Bluegrass State...er...Commonwealth of KY. Riding is my passion, but lately I've developed a desire to do some modeling of all types of bikes. I've got a small collection of diecast, but am looking to eventually build some custom bikes through modeling.

                        The last time I did anything like this was 35 yrs ago. I'm hoping the old "dog/new trick" thing works out OK.

                        I would recommend any of the Tamiya 1/12 kits. I have a few in my stash and they are awesome Tongue [:P]

                        Thanks, I'll check them out. I'm also interested in doing some military cycle stuff. The 1/9 BMW R75 w/side car in the Nov '03 gallery looks fantastic!

                        Right now, however, I'm at square one with everything. Reading all of the past posts etc is slowly giving me an idea of what I'm going to need to get started.

                        No, sorry only did a Harley FLH Classic.

                        If you want to build custom Bikes, have a look at the Aoshima range. They are mostly older models and more roadbikes but an easily be converted.

                        Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. I'm quite active as a moderator on several of the Delphi platform forums and warm welcomes are always appreciated Big Smile [:D].

                        I'm also a big believer in supporting the local economy and, as such, will try to get plugged into some of the local hobby stores in the area. (Plus, I want to begin playing right now and not wait on the shipping.) I've noticed the letters PE being used in several posts. What does that stand for? Thanks

                        PE or P/E stands for Photo-etch Brass. It's fine (expensive) brass sheets used for small details, like handholds, ladders, railing, screens, etc.

                        My spare bedroom is on the same level only with airplane stuff (I even have a P40 Warhawk coming out of the ceiling as a fan) LOL Welcome Mcgreggor, you'll fit in here perfectly!!!

                        If we are comparing rides here goes:



                        Heavily modified CB750C, long list of stuff. Toughest was the widened Rear rim in a Katana swingarm, took 2 rear rims to make it.



                        My Commuting Bike, stock except for the paint job and the 2in1 exhaust.

                        I just picked up the Tamiya XV 1600 Roadstar for my first foray into this hobby. We'll see how it goes. LOL

                        As for rides, this is mine, except for a recently added Memphis Shades.

                        That's a Honda Steed isn't it?? If it is a Steed which Model is it? VLS, VLX??

                        I got a few of the Aoshima Steed Models sitting on the Shelf(400cc, 600cc, VLS, Springer and a few custom ones too.

                        Good eye. It is indeed the Steed (in your neck of the woods) It's the VLX. Too bad we can't get the springer front end here. That would be at the top of my wish list.

                        A friend (and fellow rider) has a HS in North Carolina.He carries several of the Aoshima Steed Models. I'm hoping he has one of the choppers in stock, along w/ the Springer. Are they 1/12 scale?

                        Yes, they are in 1/12 scale. Nice Models not as high quality as Tamiya though, but very easy to do conversions on.
                        Some of the Kits come with a LOT of spares that are not needed in the build.
