Hi! im the new guy and i have some questions...
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 4:39 PM
hello every one. dont know if any one cares but im new and ive got some questions.

I love FSM and all but why don't they cover anime models along with the ships, cars and military models? anime models are just as popular and people customize them just as much or even more than military models.
Im sure theres more then enough then to fill a section and it would give the mag. some diversity, plus not so many american mags cover these types of models.

what do you guys think?

Welcome to FSM The Nox. And also welcome to a site that does care.

Myself, I'm not too much up on the Anime scene, but you could certainly address this question in the Suggestions and Feedback Forum. It'll reach the staff a little quicker that way.

Enjoy the forums !!!!
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Hey and welcome to the forum.... You'll learn quickly that this is the best place to learn and grow on your modeling skills. As to the anime, I'm not so sure about it I'm not all that into it, allthough I have seen the Matrix Anime movies and would rather enjoy modeling the characters from those movies! But just use the search bar and see what you can find!
Welcome to the community and happy building....p.s. look to Sherman Freak up there for good advise he's nice and can help!

Welcome and goodbye...Big Smile [:D]Whistling [:-^]

Well I'm still new here myself ut I'll try to help as much as I can .

FSM is a fine magazine and while it seems that they focus more on the WW2 armor , planes , ships and so fourth they do every once in a while surprise you , as far as Anime goes , I don't think I've ever seen it in the mag , but then that is what this site is for , you have hundreds of modelers that have the same interests as yourself . I know that I wish FSM would do more Sci-Fi articles but I also understand that you do the stuff that has the most interest to subcribbers and I really can't complain because I also have an interest in the WW2 setting .
But who knows maybe your plea will be heard and they'll do a feature on Anime ??? I hope i helped and more than likely someone else will have a better anwser for you .

Again Welcome

Walt

Welcome to the forum.

Another Anime fan here, for published anime figures I think your best bet will the japanese publications like Hobby Japan, Model Graphics, Replicant, All that figure kits and so on.
There are a few US Figure kit mags that feature Anime kits, a friend of mine write a column in one.

Getting hold of original and authentic Anime kits outside of Japan is a bit of a struggle, can be done but you have to wade through tons of recasts, unlicenced and pirated kits. Angry [:(!]

Also many of the available recasts overseas are shall we say of slightly erotic nature and thus not suited for a Family mag.

I think FSM will cover them if there are enough submissions and interest in original kits, doubt that they will want to feature a build-up of a recast kit.
But as was suggested post in the other forum and let them know how you feel.

its kool to meet another anime fan. I can share your pain in looking for a high quality recast and non-pirated kits and if you keep having this problem you should check out hobbyfan.com, they have great high quality recasts and plastic kits, and DO NOT sell pirated kits.

well any way I particularly like GUNDAM models I do some resin kits, depends on the character. I like the GUNDAM models so much because they are for any skill level of modeler and there looks can go from "you call that a model" to "is that held up in a warehouse some where?"

what kinds of kits are you into MadModlerFactoryQuestion [?]

Question:
When did Hobbyfan STOP selling recasts, last ime I checked I found many OOP and Event Only kits on their site.

This is a very nice Kit I got it: Big Smile [:D]
http://www.hobbyfan.com/product_info.php?products_id=2202&PHPSESSID=55eaffa47de170d509b9382532a2654a
Below you can see the original for future comaprison:
http://www.hlj.com/scripts/hljpage.cgi?WAVSC-02

Just strange that Hobbyfan never mentions the japanese makers of the kits they are selling on their web-page.

I have NO problems buying original kits over here in japan, no recast will ever enter my place of abode. Shops over here only carry original goods and if I shop online it will only be from Rainbow 10, Hobby Link Japan and/or the japanese makers websites.

As for what Kits I do like, tough one no real preferences. A kit must talk to me, I look at the kit and if I like what I see I buy it.

Hi, Nox. Welcome to FSM. I am an anime fan although I must admit I have never tried anime kits. But hey I am a MECHWARRIOR freak! Played all the games except MECHWARRIOR 4 Mercenaries and I DO LOVE MECHS! Sam a resin MADCAT kit on the net some months ago but sadly I never get to build one here.

Anyway, I think anime fans just need to contribute stuff to FSM Mag. Send them a note or something.

Anyway welcome again.

Dwight.

I got the Armorcast MadCat and Vulture. Very nice kits and worth the money.
They can be partially posed, are in 1/60 scale for wargaming and come with white metal parts too.
Their MadCat is way better detailed than the 1/35 Horizon version.

I can always recast you one, but don't tell Armorcast & FASA they might get a bit upset for me pirating their kits and not paying the licence fees.

OHHH!! Your sooooo luck Mad, you live in japan???? i wish i could go there or even live there. if i woulda known that i would have shut my mouth cause you got the source lol. as for me im not so lucky, i live in the states and can only get recast and i feel hobby fan has great recasts, and i think they dont put the company name on the model because the recast them there selves.

ne way i hear you about feeling the model, i build gundam models based on my favs from the series or what they do in certin episodes, as for resin kits i pick them based on characters that i like but I also like to have a feel for the model, a certin passion. i dunno why it jus gives me more of a reason to work on it.

The Nox.

Recast = pirated.
I am striclty against recast kits as a few of my friends suffer fom them, they are sculptors and the recasts are really ruining the garage kit industry.

A few of them lost their jobs as the companies they worked for had to close doors due to recasts they were no longer able to get hold of licences to produce new kits.

It is not just japanese companies whose kits are recast, but some great US companies also had to close doors or stopped producing kits due to recasts. I think in the last month another 2 had to shut shop one of them was a friend and he is now jobless.

New Kit releases in japan have dropped by about 70% in the last few years thanks to companies like hobbyfan and people that support them.

As you can see I fell strongly about this issue, I started to sculpt & produce my own kits but desisted after I was warned by friends in the industry.

welcome Nox. The lack of anime in FSM isn't output, it's input. If no one submits an article on anime there are none to be published. Maybe you guys that are into anime could do an articles on finding kits or the piracy problem, Something small and work your way up in length. It would likely be welcomed.

Howdy, Nox!
As you've seen, there are a few anime fans on board here. I'm a casual anime fan, wth a Guyver kit or two under my belt, but I'm a rabid tokusatsu (special effects) fan, so I'm big into the giant Japanese monster scene.
And armor, aviation, and all SF!

Welcome to FSM!

Welcome to the Forums Nox!

Also, what courtney said about submissions is about right. It is the same with Sci-Fi as well. I myself wanted to submit photos and such of my small scale Armor for the Magazine to publish, but none of my photos meet the quality requirements they've established for publishing. Maybe someday when I can afford a better camera.....Big Smile [:D]

WOW so many hits, it took almost a couple of months to get this many hits on the last fourm i was at... feels great to know that theres life out there lol.

I feel so bad now, i didnt know recasting was like that, i thought that they had to pay for licensing and other copyrighted things. know that i know that im not gonna buy any more resin kits unless there originals.

and the anime fans on this site should ban together and try to get some work published!!! I know i will.

well i guess i'll put a pic here this is one of my personal favorites and its one of my ealier works, its the first one i did with air brush i think it looks good for, at the time some one whos only been modeling for 8 months. tell me what you think.

The Nox.

No Problem glad that you saw the light, for ORIGINAL Kits there are 2 very good and reliable sources:

Rainbow 10

Hobby Link Japan

For any other kits feel free to contact me and I can most likely get you the website of the Kit maker and you can order directly.

Yeah, not many know the truth about recasting, I have done a quick writeup about the issues as have many others. Here are a few links:

http://www.digital.anime.org.uk/piratefaq.html
http://www.geocities.com/madmodelfactory/index.html (still being worked on)
http://www.geocities.com/madmodelfactory/buying.html (still being worked on)
http://home.woh.rr.com/misellus/recast_faq3.htm

FYI, what you see advertised on the net is the commercial stuff which only covers about 20% of the true volume, the rest are mostly Event Only or only sold directly by the Kit maker.

I should have a few kits finished within the next 6 months that can be published on here both Mecha and Figures.

The Nox.

No reason to be ashamed, not many people are aware of the facts. It took me a few years to learn all the details many of them I learned from talking to people directly involved in the industry and by reading japanese publications like Replicant.

OTOH, many people I have spoken to over the years still insist on buying recasts, saying they couldn't give a damn they only want the kit and as cheap as possible.

Below I have attached a link to a good kit manufacturer:

http://www.interq.or.jp/mercury/freex/index.html

You used to be able to order from them, but they now only accept orders from within japan.

BTW, I will be soon putting some overflow Kits up on my website, most of them will be Event Only or older items but there might be something you like among them.

Also give this site a try:

http://www.collectiondx.com/feature.asp?ID=9

In Japan Yahoo auctions are bigger than Ebay auctions.

There is also company out there that will bid on your behalf on japanese auctions and than send the kit to you.

Can't remember the name, heard about it a few times on discussion groups but never needed.

Easy, you will need to insert the ULR between tags (minus spaces)

Example:

Remove the spaces and the image should show (previewing your reply is recommendet)]

Some sites will not allow you to link to images hosted on them, you will either get the site logo or nothing.

BTW, I am finishing the sanding on a 1/6 "Dying Rei in Entry plug" tonight, kit been sitting like
that for way too long.
