Hello from Arkansas

IamRaider, Thats the way these knuckle head throttle jockeys used to fly the F4 around here.  I swear they could rattle the fillings out of your head.  No one believes me but I have seen them inverted at no more than 1000 feet.  I was one of the happiest people in the state when they parked those loud, smoke puking beasts  It has been very pleasant and un eventful since.

I rarely  saw the 16's and A-10's and they never shook the house like an F4.

The A-10's used to scare the crap out of me while I was deer hunting. They'd come flying down a draw I liked to hunt, so low I swear I could see their eye color. The scary thing was, you never heard em until they were past you. I learned to watch the deer, they knew when they were coming though.

I think you are doing a great job!  You'll find you will hon your skills as you do more builds.  The first few times I used the airbrush were just horrifying!  But you are doing a great job!  I'm enjoying your builds!  Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Eagle90 for the complement on the F-4. I am trying to get my painting skills up and get the smooth paint finish that I keep seeing. I will get there.

Yeah, I remember the F-4's around here when the NG flew em.  I saw more Top Gun crap done with those loud, smoking hogs than with anything since.  I live in farm land not far from the Airport, if I could have attached a plow to one of them they could have plowed my fields for me.  Talk about some low flying throttle jockeys!  Those guys made me think I should put on my BDU's and dig out the 16.  I sure was glad when they stopped flying them.  They were fun to look at but I thought they were gonna rattle the seed out of my ground.  I rarely  saw the 16's and A-10's and they never shook the house like an F4.

Nice job on the Phantom! If you build a brother to it, the Arkansas National Guard flew them out of Fort Smith in the 80's; there's usually a decal sheet wandering around auction sites with their markings on it.

Okay here is the finished plane. Maybe one of these days my paint jobs and all will match what the most of you do with your models.

Okay here is the F-4 painted and the decals going on. This kit had a full sheet of decals. Hope you like it.

First base coat of paint that is a part of the overall coloring for the plane.

Her name was Mrs. G. E. Jones. She lived to be 99 years old.

Here the canopies are masked and primed ready for paint. The whole plane is primed and ready for paint. There is a whole lot of work left. I have about 15 hours in this F-4.

What was your Grandmother's name, Doug? If you don't mind my asking.

Nice looking Tomcats there. And well done for making your own decals, I still haven't tried that. I have a real nightmare getting decent cockpit photo's, yours look a damn site better than mine.

Thank you for the kind words. Your T-38 looks great. These two aircraft are te first modern aircraft that I have done in years. Sorry about the photos of the cockpits my lighting is no good at the moment. Below is what I am working on right now.

Hey Nomad!  They look great to me!  Nicely done!  Are those Monogram kits?  Tell us more about what kits they are and scales.  They look to be 1/48.  You have any close ups of the cockpits?  Looks like awesome work on the pilots and cockpits!  I like the work you did on the helmets.  Great work!

Okay here goes. Here are the two F-14's that I have done. One is the Top Gun aircraft. I made the decals for the fins and the names. I know they are out of line for what the actual placement needs to be. It's a learning experience.

Well said Nomad!  And DO NOT let your critical eye stop you from posting pics!!!!!!!!!  We don't belittle around here.  There are tons of folks here with lots of experience more than willing to help.  Heck, you want to see a mediocre build, check out my T-38 in the Trainer GB!    I would most definitely post pics.  We all learn from each other and I'd love to see those F-14's!  Glad to have you on the forums!

Sorry about that.  GB is Group Build.  Where you get together with other builders on line and have a theme build.  Just go to the Group Build section of the forum and check out all the GB's going on.  You should get in on one.  It is a great way to learn new stuff.  I've done my first figure and working on my first armor kits on GB's!  Here is the link to the page my T-38 is on.  Hope that helped!

Thank you all for the welcome. I live in Lowell which is in the NW part of the state. I mainly like armor but have just finished two F14s. I am trying to get the Top Gun look and learning real fast that that is hard to do. I have had to male my own decals and by trial and error I think I have got it. Tho some came out as a kind of pink. lol. Oh well I will get it.

I am also new to airbrushing but getting the hang of it. I am afraid of taking photos of the aircraft and posting them. My kids and grand kids say they look great but not to me. I have a very critical eye for myself. seams and filling and then the paint is what I am struggling with the most on the aircraft.

I am disabled and sometimes my hands do not do what I want them to do but I am not going to let that stop me from having fun trying to build these models.
