The SCOTTISH MAID was one of the fastest sailing ships of her time, with large sail area and sleek lines. The schooner was built 1839 by Alexander Hall & Sons, Aberdeen, Scotland. The SCOTTISH MAID was one of the first ships with the so-called Aberdeen bow. She sailed about 40 years until she ran aground in 1880 and was lost.

USS Dolphin built in 1836     http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Dolphin_(1821)

The bottom painting shows her in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii where she was involved in the "Battle Of Honolulu"  The dates are skewed, stating that it took place in1826, but the first USS Dolphin was commissioned in 1836. http://totakeresponsibility.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-battle-of-honolulu-1826.html

I use Bing or Google and enter the number then select images. From there, if an image that I can use doesn't come up, I'll refine the search using "model kit" "air force" "navy" or whatever.

subfixer

I hope that there are better choices than locomotives and lawn tractors or you will be on your own.

Sub, I would be sorry to see you leaving this close to the finish line.

The thing is, when I enter the number  or "photos of number xyz", or "photos with number xyz" into the Google image search, of few hundred pictures that appear I get only few that have the given number on them, and they are almost always trains. I agree that they are very repetitive and I avoid them when I can. Quite a few of the pictures are ships that were built or lost on a given year (as the numbers now are the years of sailing ships) but I prefer photos with the number showing.

So could you share how do you find your photos?

Thanks...
