I have read the other posts concerning the passing of this man .He was without a doubt the kind of author who did what authors are Supposed to do .Give us a story , based on real events maybe .But fill it with characters we can equate to .Especially when you can think of a parallel in folks you know .

Tom , you have given this old vet many an enjoyable hour reading of Jack Ryan and others you filled your books with .You and Patrick O'Brian are to me ,  two of the greatest authors of this century where fiction is concerned .You , Sir will be missed . Go in peace .       Tanker - Builder

I couldn't get into Patrick O'Brian,I tried after the Master and Commander movie came out,but I just couldn't get into the few books I bought.

Try Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe series, good stuff also based on the 95th Rifles

Hey !

That's a very excellent series too .I have all three authors prominently displayed on my bookshelves . I found The " Sharpe " series quite by accident. I acquired one  ,and the rest is history . I also wonder , Is there any relationship between Bernard Cornwell and Patricia Cornwell ? Why ? Well , both are darned good writers . She is one of three or four female writers I have displayed on those same shelves .
