Got my first one in 1995 when I was seven. Airborne Ranger that had red hair just like me! Also had a Coast Guard, Desert Storm, Tuskegee Airmen, U.S Infantryman in winter camouflage and my last one was a Korean War BAR gunner.

Look at the date/year of the original post. Then do the adjusting math...

By golly, good catch Stik. Yes You are exactly right. Like Bill, I would have been 8 or 9 afterall. Now it makes sense.

1964. I was 8.

Dad had no issues. Mom was very anti-war, really resisted me on it. Of course my sisters didn't get Barbies either.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

They are not dolls... They are "action figures". ;-)

I have a vague memory of my dad objecting to me "playing with dolls". The usual reply from Mom.... "Ohhh, Elbert......", and that was the last I heard of it.

The foot locker has been mentioned twice and the scuba set once. I think about that old foot locker from time to time. It was real wood if I recall. Scuba set was another favorite.

Was really cool stuff, thanks for the memories indeed.

BTW, if this is 50 yrs then I was about 12 when they came out. I would have guessed younger. Odd.

I have the wood footlocker with the plastic tray. I also have 2 original 64 Joes and the 1965 Five Star Jeep with the trailer, light and recoiless rifle.Big Smile

Oh man, PJ, that's awesome. It would be fun to get that stuff out every once in a while just to look at them.

And I just realized how old this thread is. I knew sooner or later one would get me. Oops!

Yea it’s another zombie post lol.

I type on a tablet. Please excuse the terseness and the autocorrect. Not to mention the erors.

This is an old thread I know, but I'm a huge Vintage GI joe enthusiast as well as a modeller.  If anyone is interested, I run a GI Joe information site called Vintage3DJoes.com.  Check it out if you're interested.

Oh, man! That used to be my favorite commercial. Haven't seen that one in many, many years. Thanks for the video, stik!

And I agree - we're all on the same team. Even though we rag on each other good-naturedly, we all know who's side we're on, and we take up for each other when the chips are down. It's one of the reason's I'm a member of The American Legion - it's for all branches, and we get to meet and swap stories and become life-long friends. Some of the best friendships you'll ever make are the ones from the military, regardless of branch of service.

Anytime Dawg. I love a good laugh myself. Growing up here in So Cal, I met a LOT of Marines from Pendleton, Tustin, El Toro, 29 Palms... Kinda hard not to around here at that time. It's all good and were all on the same team when there are bad guys around. But yes, I have known a few Dogfaces who would fall in the same category. Thanks for the quiet week stuff, I hope you're right,  but I will expect the opposite.

I've worn a pickle suit... Used a "pickle" device at work... but never been called a pickle to my face or within earshot... which is pretty close by nowadays due to hearing loss... However, I have been called many other things, printable and unprintable on a family friendly site such as here... ;-) but since I know that you gyrenes vocabulary is limited to mostly excited grunts and pointing, please don't feel bad about Joe's nomenclature correction ;-)

(Pulling on my K-pot and RBA for return fire now...)

Holy Cow, Stik! That was hilarious! Got me laughing like crazy on that one! Gotta admit, though, you did perfectly describe some Marines I have known in the past.........and a few sailors and soldiers, to.....

Thanks for making me laugh twice in this thread - once with the video link, and then this. Good stuff! Hope you have a quiet week......

Crap. It's getting bad when a Marine is being corrected by a pickle..er, I mean soldier.........Big Smile (just joshin' ya!) But I stand corrected, Stik. You're correct - they are "Action Figures", not dolls. How many guys do you think I unintentionally PO'd with that one?

My buddy was in the Air Force and he referred to the Navy guys as squids and Army guys as pickles. He said he had been called an air nut by a Marine along with other choice words. Zip it!

Heh! We called the sailors "Squids", too. The Air Force pogues we called "fly boys". My youngest son is ex-USAF, so he really caught H**L for not joining the Marines like his daddy and brother! I like that term "Air Nut", though. I'm gonna have to start using that one on him and his wife (she's still in the USAF).

Hadn't heard a soldier called a "Pickle", though. That's a new one for me.

The original 64 Joe stuff has come down in price some but are still highly collectable specially if you have the boxes. I have seen original boxes sell for as much as $100 to $200 depending on the condition. They are hard to come by since most were thrown away after a child received America's fighting man. Expect to pay a very high premium for a 5 Star Jeep, mint and complete in the box, cha ching...$$$$.

Tojo72

I always like the scuba diver set with the mask and air tanks

Here ya go Tojo, I forgot that I have him too. Just hope the mask and belt are packed with the jeep!

Thanks for the memories.I remember that the frogman suit was a real chore getting it on him,use to have to use talcum powder to slide it on. I liked the 12" joes, but I always liked the small plastic soldiers better they might ahave been 1/32 I can't remember.Could make bigger scenes.I had German,Japanese, and American.I also had Fort Apache, cowboys, indians, wagons, and cannons. Man,I suppose that stuff would be worth a lot now Anthony
