Toshi

you were asking about the Academy kit on this thread and in your previous one. Forgot under what title but I answered your question there. I even posted a picture of my nmf Academy Lightning.

I will revisit that subject here. It's an excellent kit even as an oob build. I didn't use any filler except for a couple of tiny areas at the boom/wing join. As with any resin am part, you may run into fit issues requiring sanding and shaving of parts to get a proper fit. The Academy decals were very thick and not even Solvaset helped so do yourself a favor and get some aftermarket decals.

I saved those kit decals and cut them in thin stripes for missile markings but that didn't work either cause they refused to stay put around the missile body.

Greg-  not totally sure on aircraft, but in automotive use, a supercharger is engine driven, by either belt or gears,  and the turbo is driven by the exhaust.  Explains why on a Mustang you have the exhaust coming off the engine block and on the 38's and 17's you have the exhaust routed through a pipe system.

Thanks, Hammer. I think that rings a bell from some past memory, yes. You ever have one of those things you can't keep straight? This is one of them, for me.

Toshi, just a couple of Piper light twins. There are lots of folk here with plenty more aviating experience than I, plus I'm 10+ yrs retired from it all.

BTW, don't forget your mask when working with all that resin in the Big Sin kit, Toshi.

The lead design apparently was Hall Hibbard, with Kelly Johnson.

Johnson said something to the effect that"we added the engine, the landing gear, the turbocharger and the radiators and before you knew it, we were back at the tail".

Thanks for satisfying my curiousity about the order from Oz.

Glad I got it right on the turbocharger guess. I flew and owned two turbocharged aircraft, and if I ever knew the difference between a turbocharger and a supercharger I've long since forgotten...... Whistling

I remember building bombers and stuff as a youngster with the whatever chargers on top of the engine nacelles. I recall wondering why there was a second landing gear on top, and what the heck good that would do anyway. Dunce (they do kind of look like it)

WOW!  What type of aircraft(s) did you fly?  Second landing gear?  LOL!  LOL!

Wow, lots of goodies in that Big Sin package. The turbochargers if that's what they are are really nice. Never seen any in resin before.

So, I've been curious, why did you order that Big Sin set all the way from Oz?

Yes, they are the turbochargers/Superchargers.  I've never seen resin ones either, I'm trying to figure out how to prep them.  LOL!

As for ordering from Australia, this company is fast, efficient, great customer service, and inexpensive.  They also carry some unusual items.

I thought the one picture posting was because you were too excited to wait to take another picture before posting the one you'd taken!

I could imagine you taking a picture and running to upload and post it, then running back to take another picture!

LOL!  LOL!  I'd be like the Road Runner!

As for what kit, it will be a Academy 1/48 P-38 Lightning.  Have you made this kit and if so can you tell me anything about it that I should beaware of?  Thank you in advance!

I have not built the Academy...although, I got a bit of a start on it a few years ago...not enough to be able to point out any issues, if any.

I've built a couple of the old Revellogram 38's (don't care to do that again), and a couple Hasegawa (also a ProModeler, reboxed Hasegawa kit)...the later are quite nice and better detailed than the Academy...but, having all that you have for it, makes those kit details not matter!

When you had mentioned the old Revellogram P-38's not wanting; "To do that again", you made me laugh so hard!

Ultimately, you are correct in that with having the Eduard/Brassin Big Sin set, everything else is just formalities.  Now let's just hope I can do justice to this build with all that AM stuff!  I can't tell you thank you enough fermis!

Thats some collection of AM you have there, should be fun.

Toshi, you can post more than one pic in a post, that just might save you a lot of hassle.

If I can do it correctly it should be very much a fun experience.  I know I can post more than one picture at a time but I have been using an older iPhone 4 that's has issues.  It only allows me to post one photo at a time.  Mrs. Toshi wants me to upgrade, but I don't want to.  Because upgrading does cost money and I'd rather spend that money on a kit!  LOL!  Wouldn't you agree?  LOL!

Toshi

Figured there might be a reason, jsut wasn't. And i could agree more. My Mrs keeps trying to get me to buy a smart phone, but i am happy to do with a £16 phone that can make phone calls, even thats to much.

We are die hard modelers aren't we!  LOL!  "The last of the Mohicans"!  LOL!

Tanker - Builder

Hi Toshi !

Funny you should post this . My Bass Boat ( one of the older Ranger Products ) was named that by my wife ! Old- Put Put Maru found many a good fishin hole too . I want to see this as a WIP post please ?  T.B.

Hi Tanker Builder!

That is so funny!  LOL!

Every single one of my builds since joining FSM Forum 1 year and 8 months ago have been posted here as a WIP.  I have never made a kit that was never a WIP.  I did this for myself to be able to keep records.  It also helped me because of you and members like you of whom read, reply, and critique my builds so I can get better in each and every single build that I do.

I think the most important thing for me is to be able to go all around the world and converse with everyone.  This, I find so exciting!  Something that I thought would never happen happened, I have a second family!  FSM Forum members.
