First coat of paint, then carpeting. Yeah, I know, carpet monster.  

Buy one of those plastic floor covers from Office Depot or Staples that will allow a chair to roll around. Pieces will still sometimes bounce off of them in to the carpet, but it helps!

 Thanks for the idea of Staples and OD. I have these interlocking mats I use for my weights, was thinking that route. Your way may be better....and cheaper.

Well;

 "G" you have a cleaner bench than I for sure . On mine you'll find H.O. scale buildings , Aircraft Carrier parts ( The De Gaulle ) and the client model parts , Stacks , radars etc .There's always something there .  T.B. Oh , and an airplane or two .
