I've noticed we have quite a variety so, for all of those who do not use their name (though you guys can play too, of course), how or where did you pick up your screen name?

Being a former Navy diver, mine should be fairly obvious, but I've had several other call sign in the past. Some of you guys seem to have pretty special handles. So, what's the haps?

At one point I had to shake off a tenacious troll that was dogging me around the www.

Current one is a favorite long passed relative.

Mine came from when I started an auto body shop.  There was a Velvet Hammer in another city.  Called mine Goldhammer, thinking people would think gold standard of work.

Still use it, because of my gold mining activities.

My first name is Anthony, so I shortened it to To

My middle name is Joseph, so I shortened it Jo

The 72 was my radio call sign at work for 27 years

So I came up with Tojo72

My wife helped me pick it because when I joined this site after a long time just being a lurker I had to pick a name.  I had a lot tank models laying about, so that was it.  I realy dislike nick names.

From my cowboying days I was a brushpopper or 'outrider', which became my callsign for a lot of things during my time in the military. Now, of course , because of the way things are around military types, that occasionally got changed to 'outhouse rider', much to my dismay. But all in all, other than the diving related Nom-de plume I use on forums, 'Outrider' is still used too.

I was looking for a new on-line identifier, so I just looked around my apartment and picked a couple of random things.  A painting of an eagle that I have in my "dining room" (its pretty much my building area now, I don't eat there), and a bottle of Danny Cash hot sauce...after that I just picked some random numbers.  Had some trolls I had to ditch from my days of posting videos on YouTube.  That was the end of "social media" for me.  Too much drama, and too many sick people runnin around on those places.

Fox, I just realized where Narvon is. I grew up halfway between there and Philadelphia, in Paoli, along US 30, the 'Main Line'.

Well, my name is Robin Gronovius, but my family has always called me Rob since I was a kid. Anyone who calls me Robin doesn't know me. If someone knows me and calls me Robin, I am often in trouble.

My wife only calls me Robin, so I'm always in trouble with her.

I was at a Padres baseball game 3 rows behind home plate and at that time we had a player named Fred McGriff.  And back in the day there were commercials about safety with an anthropomorphic dog named McGruff that advised folks on locking doors and crime related issues.  So everyone called McGriff "The Crime Dog".   Me and a few buddies were watching the game and Crime Dog became <insert name here>Dog.  My sur name is Keaveney so that’s how I got to be KeavDog - there are many more <insert name here>Dog friends of mine

I played a role in a couple of stage re-creations of the old "Tom Corbett, Space Cadet" radio & TV series.  My name is Chuck, so "Cadet Chuck" became my handle.

My forum "handle" comes from the old "Rocky Jones, Space Ranger" TV show of the 1950s, a show which was said to have been an inspiration for Gene Roddenberry's "Star Trek." My avatar is an image of Rocky's ship.

However, my avatar is my 'cosmic twin,' Wile E. Coyote -- "Genius" -- for whom things will...occasionally...not go quite according to a brilliantly-thought-out plan.

(I have a small inkling of what that can be like....)

Way back in the late 80's my friend and I used to play a lot of arcade games. When you get a high score, you could put in your initials. I would put in MRX. Mr. X.  A couple of years later my friend and I started logging into BBS's using his brand new super high end 486dx-66 computer. Stick out tongue I logged into a new BBS that didnt use your real name and I had to come up with an Alias. I tried MRX, MR-X and every combination of it, but they were all taken. I was and am a huge fan of an electronic band that has a song called Deviate. They remixed it and called it DV8, so I used that as my new alias online. I used this for years. One day my future wife's brother (who also used BBS's) called me Deeve. Ever since then, I have used Deeve. Big Smile

Well;

This is interesting.  Mine comes from a Hobby. I like to Scratch-Build H.O. Tankers and Supertankers. I started this when I Captained for British Shell Petroleum Co. My last first Mate actually came up with it in an E-Mail!

Before all the Fine Scale Modeler site mess-ups with me I had an AVATAR-It was a photo of a completely hand carved Gentlemen's Speed Boat.( I used to make them as gifts to my " Boating" friends!)

Just a mix of my initials and last name.  Being a Nationals fan the #11 is Nats great Ryan Zimmerman.  The picture of the horizon is a bit more interesting.  My wife and I started taking pictures of horizons while on vacation.  We have the pictures  enlarged to 36"x30" and framed.  We just got back from Aruba when I joined the forum.

I love nicknames. Its a fairly common Aussie trait and I tend to name my pets with weird and wonderful tags. Some years ago I had a pet cat who went everywhere with me and he had some funny behaviour traits and I called him Dodgy. We lost Dodgy to cancer and I still miss him, so when I started on this forum I used Dodgy as a way of remembering him. For your entertainment here are the nicknames of some of my mates: Mental; Diamond; Winkie; Ferret; Noddy; Have a chat; Crabman; Pud; Postie; Rowdy; Mongrel and Blue. My Avater is just me at the helm of my boat.

Hey stikpusher, you got a point here or just being obstinate? So what if there was an earlier thread of this nature. Everybody else seems to be participating and enjoying it; what's your issue?

And, if you're going to point it out, at least make your links clickable; otherwise you are just being obtusive.
