This past weekend was the Wings over Wayne airshow at Seymour Johnson AFB here in NC, and I got some great daddy-daughter time. Perhaps because it was the first post-COVID (and they cancelled the '21 show), but it appears that attendance broke any previous record, and by a long way! Traffic onto the base was so bad that it backed up over an hour and doubled our drive time to 3h door-to-flight line.

By some stroke of luck, we got there right as the Blue Angels show was starting, with Fat Albert taxiing into position as we walked up. Got great position, standing right up against the flight line barrier.  We spent an hour watching a fantastic show, after which my daughter wanted to buy a Blue Angels cap (she loves baseball caps) and declared her undying love for the coolest precision flight demonstration team ever!

What a great weekend!  Big Smile

Yeah, their fantastic, glad you both enjoyed it.I used to go to McGuire AFB a lot to see the air shows. It was always a mad house, especially trying to leave, those bases just aren't set up to handle that much ground traffic, but the shows were great.

My wife used to drop me and the kids off at the front Gate of Miramar and we'd walk in.  The whole show was a blast and the Blues were just a part of it (the best part).  I remeber a Harrier hovering right in front of the grand stands about 10 feet off the ground.  Loudest thing ever.

Thanks,

John

I used to see them at Moffit NAS. Now they fly on Fleet Week up in San Francisco.

Love them.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

We used to see them every year at Atlantic City. They flew low over the water out past the swimmers and some boats. Haven't seen them in a few years.

Stay Safe.

I grew up in the shadow of NAS Pensacola back when they were flying F-4Js and I was terrified of the VERY LOUD THINGS flying over the back yard when was outside playing.  (Counting all those experiences, I should claim I've seen then many dozens of times!)  I loved watching the A-4s when I was old enough to appreciate them, and I love watching the F-18s now.  Perhaps I need to add one to my stash....  Smile
