Hataka - BEWARE buying directly
Posted by HighDesertmodeler on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 1:19 AM

I had an issue with Hataka, they delivered lacquer thinner bottles which leaked out into my package coating other paint bottles.  An entire bottle worth of their thinner had emptied.  What a mess!  I tried contacting Hataka various times asking for a credit for the value of the spilled thinner on my next order...never heard back from them even after four attempts.  I opened a case with PayPal nearly a month ago with my problem and Hataka today agreed to pay refund once I return to them my items, and I'm to pay for return shipping costs as well!

Very devious on their part knowing that I can't ship back spilled contents along with the balance of their lacquer thinner and paints since they are considered hazardous products per UPS and shipping cost would exceed the value of the items as I originally purchased.

I suggest you stay away from these swindlers from Poland.

Howdy!

Sorry to hear about your experience. I'm also sorry to hear you try to generalize your one experience to whole Poland, let's try not to do that.

I agree that the company might do better at handling this one. Then again, it's a hard one - once you send a package away you don't have influence over what happens to it - it will probably get frozen, squashed and subjected to low ambient pressures (if they put it on the plane). So shipping paints and thinners is always a risky business...

Then again I've bought several Hataka paints (from a retailer) and I like them  a lot and I heartly recommend them. I especially like the Orange series, those are the lacquer based ones, very nice paint to work with. There is also another company making good stuff - called VMS, they make pigments, weathering chemistry and decal solutions - worth checking out.

Have a nice day

Paweł

I don't think he generalized,he quite specifically said "these" swindlers,meaning Hataka,from Poland.

I do feel that the inclusion of " from Poland" wasn't necessary though.

I wouldn't necessarily say that they're swindlers.  This is just a risk that you take when directly buying hazmat items from places overseas.  They can't put any of this stuff on an airplane, so it all has to come by ship, and dealing with hazardous materials is just expensive for everybody.  Probably best to buy from a Hataka distributor in the US like Sprue Brothers.  Shipping issues are bound to happen from time to time.  Since they're buying in quantity, they can deal with shipping problems from the manufacturer and you won't have to worry about it.  I buy a lot of modelling items from overseas, but I don't buy paint that way any longer.  Tried it once.  No actual problems with damaged contents that time, but it took a LONG time for it to get here because of HazMat rules.  Long before it finally got here, the MRP paint I had bought came back in stock at Sprue Brothers, so I should have just waited a little longer.  Live and learn...improvise, adapt, and overcome.  Cool

I reject your fallious allegation that I made this about Poland...you are fully and unequivocally incorrect.  This has nothing to do with any ethnicity or country, just this particular company which happens to be located in Poland.

I request an immediate apology from you.

"Swindlers" and "devious" are pretty strong words. AFAICS their one bad move was for you to have to apply pressure before they responded.

I can see your point though- their terms just are not advantageous to their customer and they certainly have lost you. They should ship you a replacement at no cost to you.

Pawel as you know is Polish and he's entitled to take the comment you made however he chooses, without rebuttal.

I have the right of rebuttal...and would do the same again under similar circumstances.  End of discussion...
