Amen! I just started using film again after spending some time with digital. Don't get me wrong, digital definitely has it's advantages and for colour there's little difference from film and it's a lot more convenient to print. But for BW I prefer the 'depth' of film.

Also there is something magical about using older film cameras and they are still as relevant as they were when produced. Digital cameras are essentially disposable since there is very little inherant value in them over time. Once replaced by better sensors and processors they are only good for paperweights.

What cameras do you use?

This is all a hobby for me at the moment, so I don't have many professional cameras. I am currently using some simpler TLR 120 film cameras such as a Yashica-mat LM. I'm thinking of upgrading to a Mamiya 4x5 or Pentax 6x9 camera in the near future, just to get more out of the 120 film I use. 

I also use a first year Canon F-1 for my 35mm needs, for which I have quite a large lens selection squirreled away. That camera works so smoothly, it's a joy to use. I also have a collection of older German and Japanese 35mm cameras from the 1950's and 1960's.

I agree about film cameras being relevant; if in good working order, they take as good a photo as when they were new. In fact, with the better films being made these days, they probably take better photos than before.

The Yashicamat is really nice. I use a Mamiya C220 and a Holga. I also use a Mamiya 645 but it's not that good. I used a 4x5" view camera for awhile but they are too cumbersome.

The 35mm sound like a lot of fun. I know two fine art photographers who swear by their F1's and can get great lenses for almost nothing. But of course the classics are still expensive (ie Leica and Contax).

I've been hearing this for the past 10 years but, to my surprise, so far it hasn't happened to print film. Polaroid is dead and slide film is on life support but there is still a dedicated and perhaps even growing demand for BW film. Colour print film is still readily available although it's primarily Kodak and Fuji - and it's still cheap. I had heard the Kodak is even bringing out a new colour film and Rollei entered the BW film market a few years ago. In the contemporary art world film is still the way to go, especially large format. What I'm seeing in the galleries and museums now is that films are being scanned and printed digitally, so that has given them some new life. Of course you're probably right and film may die completely but I think that's still a ways off - at least I hope it is.

What film equipment were you thinking about selling?

This is hilarious, but bang on. The dreaded vacation slide show has now been replaced by a laptop and 10x more 'holiday snaps' than before. In either case it's a good way to lose friends :)

Without modeling maybe I could finally blow apart that writer's block I've had for going on a decade and actually write.  I've been working on a novel about WWII but have never been able to get a good handle on it.  Possibly the modeling has gotten in the way, but more likely it's just been life in general - jobs, girls, marriage and family, vacations, all of that. 

I have a garage full of cool power tools and a laundry list of projects I'd like to use them for.  Plus, I have a decent stash of unbuilt kits that will keep me busy for many years.

i have a stash that based on 2 models a month will keep me for  18-19 yrs

but...  I draw , paint , dabble in coin and stamps  ,    i am heavy into sports cards  ,

heavy into reading and cooking too

i wish i were retired so i could spend all my time on all my above hobbies
